holy crap i adore planet waves. tis one of my favorite dylan albums. even that ridiculous line from tough mama- "today on the countryside, it was a-hotter than a crotch"... makes me joyful.

ever heard the alternate take of visions of johanna from no direction home? bleeeew my mind! i prefer the original, however (duh, rather)- the alternate take sort of puts a bite into the song that doesn't compliment the lyrics as well. tis a song that should be slowly savored.

You found another "deep clip" for us. Never saw that before -- wasn't George a great guy? Man, I miss him. Thanks.

That's right, I think. Consider this album release schedule:

    - Planet Waves (Jan. 17, 1974)
    - Before The Flood (June 20, 1974)
    - Blood on the Tracks (Jan. 17, 1975)
    - Basement Tapes (June 26, 1975)
    - Desire (Jan. 16, 1976)

January 1974 to January 1976 = five albums in two years' time (three new studio albums + one live album + 1 archival release)

And count me in -- I love Planet Waves.

Depending on my mood, Syd Barrett may be my favorite artist ever.
His clever approach to songwriting, and temperment are vital to me.

So, I was much surprised to hear his "Bob Dylan Blues" finally unearthed
some years ago. Written around 1964 by Syd, it is a touching perception
from a young British art student of the Bob we see and hear on the early acoustic albums.

This is definately the best tribute I've ever heard.
I sincerely hope Bob has heard it at some point.
Imagine - if you will - Bob covering this song....

    Got the Bob Dylan blues
    And the Bob Dylan shoes
And my clothes and my hair's in a mess
But you know I just couldn't care less

Gonna write me a song 'bout what's right and what's wrong
About God and my girl and all that
Quiet while I make like a cat

Cause I'm a poet, doncha know it
And the wind you can blow it
Cause I'm Mr. Dylan the king
And I'm free as a bird on the wing

Do you think it was a tribute or a put-down? I can't decide.

Tribute, no doubt. If you keep Bob in the context of what an English kid would see as of 1964.
Bob was very American, scruffy...ya know the whole image Bob portrayed before going hip and modern.

Roam from town to town, guess I get people down
But I don't care too much about that
Cause my gut and my wallet are fat

Make a whole lot of dough but I deserve it though
I got soul and a good heart of gold
So I'll sing about war and the cold

So you think he admired Dylan for being a cool, scruffy, wealthy protest singer? You may be 100% right, but I'm still a little confused.

Either way, it was great to hear the song, thanks for posting it.

My junior high school friend and me listened to the RAH 66 for months, during the time we stole his dad's moonshine at 15. Great times. Later i played him blonde on blonde and we drove to Gothenburg to see Dylan live in 2003

overall recording/sound quality of the CD - the vinyl is however much more rounded out. I enjoy it very much and will be spinning it tonight, as a matter of fact. it's also a relatively lower quality performance compared to some of the other recording captured from that time. but, i haven't heard any of them, so it doesn't bother me!

There are some moments where it's got some great kick, as well as some amusing missteps, and there's a deep full and smooth gyrating sound from the dead throughout, surfaced by a little bit of a weary Dylan voice, with great peaks of power and some clever phrasing to deliver it all. in other words, the complete Dylan package!

I find it disappointing that he seems to judge Elton John as having nothing to say / no depth by using Crocodile Rock as a typical example. He hasn't listened to album cuts or paid much attention to Bernie Taupin as a lyricist, apparently. Or paid attention to Elton's long illustrious career spanning decades and with a huge variety of quality material.
