Sorry I was referencing the fact that every avatar I've had on this site has been of a picture of Johnny the Seal. It's probably about time for me to update to a new one. I haven't even listened to this album. No Mark Reale = No interest

They were just Wrathchild early on, but that group name was taken when they cut the first album, so they just added America to it. I went to school with the guitarest Brad Divens, he filled in on the second Kix album as well. He is a sound engineer now for a lot of other bands. South central PA is home for me too.

Off top of my head I would have to say Saxon. I've not read through this thread so I don't know if anyone has already mentioned them.

They were at the forefront of the NWOBHM and fairly successful in the UK (I think) but remain(ed) largely unknown here in the USA. They took a slight detour into trying to Americanize/commercialize their sound in the mid-to-late '80's but then came back strong and have been going on in a straight-ahead-old-school-classic-metal vein for years now, still putting out quality metal albums that sound timeless to me.

Saxon is great. Maiden and Saxon led the charge, with Def Leppard on their heels. Wheels Of Steel is one of my all time favorite metal albums.

Love 'em! Had to check them out as soon as I heard the song 747. Hooky, heavy, melodic, and their lead singer has a unique voice that just "fits."

So cool. It's a small world. I always thought that 3-D album really captured their sound. Those songs sounded so good live with the 2 guitars. Les Pauls and Marshals all the way if I remember correctly.

Riverdogs, I have to revisit that. I remember it wasn't the typical hairband fare of that era.

Without Eric Wagner they are not even the same band. The new singer is awful.

I used to have the first album on cassette. I remember liking about half of it. I never kept up with them after that. What would you consider their best release? It would be nice to have one of there's in my collection.

Kyle Thomas? He's not as bad as Kory Clarke was. Speaking of Kory Clarke, how about some Warrior Soul?

Edit: WS is not an 80's band, but still good. Now Kyle Thomas was in Exhorder and they definitely started in the 80's. Pantera took a page from their book, in fact.

Just about anything with Wino I'm down with. Spirit Caravan's Jug Fulla Sun remains my favorite of the Wino catalog.
The first Obsessed is my favorite of the 3. (I think there's three right?)

Shannon Larkin's drumming performance on 3-D is one of the greatest of all time for me - just an amazing musician.

I'm a metal fan, I've heard of none of these band names. They are not mainstream bands.
