As a Brit (see various above) I would have voted for ...Interplanetary Craft or Solitaire. So, Rainy Days And Mondays it is.

There's no obvious Carpenters signature single, so that makes this poll more interesting than most. It's cool to see where everybody lands.

I went with "Superstar" -- the quiet desperation in Karen's vocal is chilling -- but really, most of these songs are equally good candidates. My #2 would be "Goodbye to Love", just because that guitar outro pushed their boundaries to a place they had never been to before - - or went afterwards.

From the list I chose Rainy Days & Mondays - melancholy never sounded so beautiful

But overall my favorite is Calling Occupants. Such an out there song for The Carpenters to cover.

I've always liked "Yesterday Once More" best. "Rainy Days and Mondays" comes second.

But to many it's ear broccoli

Taylor though is most definitely eye candy

"For All We Know" should have more votes. That's their best single in my opinion.

Isn't this how we all secretly feel about the Carpenters?

From the 'Carpenters' LP. Practically a mini greatest hits album, that one.

It's doing better than 'Please Mr Postman'... One of their biggest US hits and not one vote!

    Another vote for "Begun"

It's a great song, but not considered one of the 'big' Carpenters singles, I think. When this poll began I thought it would be between Close To You, We've Only Just Begun and Rainy Days And Mondays. Any of those plus Goodbye To Love could win.

Very odd choice of single for them. I remember the press slamming it back in the day. Karen sings it beautifully, but like everything else she recorded, she sounds like she's auditioning for the lead in The Sound Of Music!

"Goodbye to Love" for the beautiful melody, that brilliant and groundbreaking guitar solo, and the fact that it's a Richard Carpenter/John Bettis original.

Yes, a nice one from 'Passage'.

It was a pretty big hit over here in the states. (#2 on the hot 100) It didn't chart at all in the UK. :shake:
I didn't expect "Goodbye To Love" to do so well in this poll. According to wiki, it was one of the first power ballads, if not the first. :wtf:

Karen's obvious joy in Top of the World is infectious. And the way she effortlessly tackles all the verses smoothly in one breath contributes to the breeziness and happy spirit of the song

Goodbye To Love was one of the few 'cool' Carpenters songs. Mainly because of the rock guitar solo. I think the follow-up single to GTL was Sing, which showed they weren't concerned with staying cool.:D

What's their best album sleeve? I'd go with Now & Then or Horizon. The others don't bear thinking about!

That's not a bad cover. I didn't think of that album as it was more of a compilation, but yeah, it's nice..

Though no bad ass ever had that haircut!

It's under their studio albums so it still counts. ;) But technically speaking, it is a compilation.
That hairdo is too cool to leave the 70's. Lol
