    A lot of people poo poo pop artists as not being "real" or "authentic". Some of us don't subscribe to that theory and enjoy a good dose of pop now and again, regardless of how "manufactured" they may be. Are all pop artists "fake"? How do you tell who's real and who's not?

    What are you listening to instead of "real" music at this time?

  2. This is most definitely a golden age of Pop, mainstream rock that is non-alternative(which is its own deadend) has been subsumed by country which is also going through a golden age, both genres have benefited and benefited from great female singers/artists.

  9. Of course not all pop artists today are "fake."

    But it's the same as it ever was: if you don't write your own music there's a certain bit of manufacturing involved.

    People like Elvis and Sinatra didn't write squat, but they brought something unique to the table.

    I think a lot of people's bones they pick with today's pop "artist" is the "product" can neither compose, nor are they unique by any stretch of the imagination.

    Right now, The Willis Family is playing on the TV. Does that count? But I am making plans to listen to Sun Ra, so not sure if that exactly fits...
    P.S. hope there's no child molesters lurking around that show. Once bitten. twice shy.

    That song has like 5 different hooks in it - it's like an album's worth for some people.

    * Girls (all four of them. So, not guys, which are OK to like. And they play instruments, which is what men it's OK to like do, not pretty girls);
    * They're from California (shallow!)
    * Two of them have 'wealthy' parents from the music industry (nepotism!!!)
    * They have a 60s pastiche look and sound (copying 'acceptable' male artists that are not manufactured!)
    * Mark Ronson co-produced the album (that guy who copied 'acceptable' artists on "Uptown Funk")
