What older, obscure music have you been listening to lately?

Never heard of her. Mainstream had quite a few really cool psych artists. It's like, if you see it's on Mainstream, and looks psych, it's probably going to be good.

There are a couple of Jimmy Shands downloadable albums on e-music (which I am no longer a member of because I would ALWAYS have download problems, e-music does have a lot of the old blues DOCUMENT CDs which I like a lot). I think they are under the name Beltona Recordings or Parlophone Sessions. Lot of fun, and this is the only place I could find them. I happen across a 78 of his one day and fell in love with the music, after hearing Richard Thompson sing about "Don't Sit On My Jimmy Shands", so took a chance and picked it up for two bucks (Beltona).

Maybe it's not obscure for the members of this forum, but I've been listening to Magna Carta's Seasons and Barclay James Harvest's Time Honoured Ghosts.

Listening to these older, obscure sides, Mrs. Swing's defiantly an equal to Billie Holiday.

Octave - Moody Blues - Side 1, track 3, "Had To Fall In Love"

While the Moody Blues certainly aren't obscure, I think this song is something of a "lost nugget", as I've recently pulled this album up in Spotify and spun the original "Side 1" - this song just reached out & grabbed me. BTW, these guys haven't recorded any new music this century except for a Christmas album - anyone know if they have any plans for any new music again?

No, probably not. They keep saying they plan to but I don't believe it. I think they feel they have no incentive to because it won't sell like they want it to.

2004 is old? I don't know if it's obscure or not.

Sorry, I glanced at the title and thought it said old "or" obscure.

That is a great album though, and none of my Kansas fan friends had ever heard of it until I asked them about it.

'S alright. Maybe another Kansas fan will discover this.

I believe that's correct as I recently read somewhere that they (The Moody Blues) had no plans for a new release due to way things are with the music industry. It's a sad state of affairs when we're being denied potentially great music but maybe they just need to adjust to the times and release music to their core fans via downloading.

And for those who want a big healthy taste of 60s psych/punk/garage from the Mainstream label - there is a great 2 CD set entitled All Kinds Of Highs available right now from the Big Beat label.

I have this on a Decca Label VA compilation. Sounds a bit different, but a really good tune.

Played a Scorpio pressing of Gentle Soul last week, as it got uncovered whilst I was filing. Even the almost certainly digitally sourced Lp sounds pretty good.
