I saw the Toronto show on that tour and I completely agree with you.
One of the best concerts I have ever attended.

All of the Goats Head Soup songs sound good on this one. You could tell it was new material that they were anxious to play. When that string of songs begins, you can hear them tightening up their playing and singing compared to the looser feel of the previous tunes. Great stuff.

    Some other contenders:

    Goin' Home/Satisfaction - Paris '67
All Down The Line - Paradiso '95 (or maybe it's Brixton - whatever version wound up on the Like A Rolling Stone CD single)
Out Of Control - MSG '98
Route 66 - Got LIVE! EP
Imagination - Phoenix or Hampton '81

As far as officially released, still Sympathy from Ya-Ya's. Listen to it five times, each time singling out each one of the five's parts...stunning.

When I posted I tried to mention songs that had not already been posted.

I like The Spider And The Fly from Stripped quite a bit.

The live BBC version of Cops And Robbers is pretty cool.

It's cheating on several counts, but Keith Richards' performance of "You Don't Move Me" from the Palladium in '88 (if memory serves) is amazing. It's available only on bootleg, wasn't included on the official live album from that night. It's a great song to start with, but the venom and the killer guitar solo on the boot is amazing.

To follow the rules, I choose the '78 KBFH broadcast that has Mick screaming "Thank YOOOOOO!" repeatedly before launching into Just My Imagination.

Surprised no one has mentioned Just My Imagination from the '78 or '81 tours (probably because they never had a decent official release until recently). Both are just outright fantastic, let-it-all-loose covers that arguably trump the original source material.

"But in reaaaaality, SHE DOESN'T F&^KING KNOW ME!!!"

I love that! What I like about it so much is how joyful it is. It's so much fun to hear the performers play exuberantly, without coolness, detachment, or irony. And it's a nice little reminder that both artists had been there, back in the "old" R&B, black-and-white-TV era. Neither "Uptight" nor "Satisfaction" were really that old at the time--the songs would have seven years old in 1972--but in retrospect they seem like complete throwbacks in the context of a '70s rock concert.

I also really like the version of "Street Fighting Man" from "Brussels Affair" (which John Fell mentioned earlier). It's so fast and wild, it practically sounds like the stage is melting.

This is a tough one and all my picks have already been mentioned, but, what the heck, I wanna play!!

Midnight Rambler and Sympathy from Ya Ya's - Leave me breathless after all these years.

Tumbling Dice - a tie between Philly 72 and Brussells 73.

Gimmie Shelter - Brussells 73 (But as previously mentioned the version recorded in london)

Let It Rock - Leeds 71. This may well be the best live two and a half minutes of rock n roll ever captured on tape!!!

    OK...Thanks for letting me play!!!!!
