    Like A Prayer for me.

Much prefer the early 83-87 period and could have gone for several in that timespan.

Also prefer the early albums, along with Ray of Light.

Always disliked "Like a Prayer" even though it contains one of my all time favorite Madonna songs.
My top 3 are "Like a Virgin","Ray of Light" & "Confessions on a Dance Floor".

    Wow. That's a LIST!

I may change my vote later, but I'm going with Like A Virgin. A very fresh single in 1984.

Even though they stole the bassline from Billie Jean!

In truth, I love about 95% of the above.

Interesting, Madonna taking a few pages out of the MJ handbook. :p
I do too. Only two singles on the list that I absolutely despise and that's "Hanky Panky" & "Don't Cry For Argentina".

She does a nice version of DCFMA, but I've never liked the song. I don't even like Olivia's take on it!

An incredible run of wonderful, diverse singles. And the last one, Ghosttown, is up there with the very best of them.

I don't like any version of that song. Yuck! :nyah:
Ghosttown is the best single she's released in the last 20 years of her career.
Can't go wrong with that. Now that I think about it, she usually shines the brightest over ballads.

I also like "Crazy For You" a lot. And "Oh Father". In fact, I love the whole Something To Remember comp. So, yeah: she can sure carry a ballad.

"Oh Father" is the first song I heard by Madonna that made me feel for her. :sigh: It tugs at my heart strings.

Frozen. This was a real departure from her previous pop/dance sound. Ghost Town is really up there - perplexed by it's lowly chart performance.

Madonna is touching 60, that's why. It doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the single. It's age-ism in the industry. Every artist goes through it once they reach a certain age.

"Borderline" because it's basically an R&B tune and she sings it like it is. Reggie Lucas wrote it and it's the closest to R&B she got. In fact, it got a lot of R&B play.

"Crazy for You" is just a really good song. She also sings it really well.

Yeah, I think it and "Til Death Do Us Part" are possibly my two favourites off LAP. Madonna addressing her father and/or God/religion, and her ex husband. Both songs really humanise her. That level of vulnerability was very unusual for her in 1989 (and now).

It's ageism by record buyers plus old fans don't buy singles any more or do downloads. This sudden drop off in popularity started with her last album so maybe the quality of 'MDNA' has something to do with it or more likely disappointed buyers of her previous album 'Hard Candy'. Funny that attempts to remain trendy musically have had inverse effect on sales.

I agree it does have a R&B feel to it. But it's not the closest she's been to R&B.
