I'm torn between Into the Groove and Express Yourself. :/

The top 5 on the NZ chart dated August 4 1985 was:

    1 Paul Hardcastle: 19
    2 Madonna: Crazy For You
    3 Madonna: Into The Groove
    4 Prince: Raspberry Beret
    5 Madonna: Angel

So New Zealand was also Madonna mad. :D

    Old charts rock!

Never cared for '19', but love all the rest.

They still were until the 2010s. "Confessions on a Dance Floor" Spawned four Top 10 songs in the UK. :) We (The states) gave up on her by that time.
"Day Dreaming" is another smooth and subtle song by Aretha. I guess I don't hate all of her music with a passion after all. Lol
That's your all time favorite Madonna song? :)

It's my favourite of the ones mentioned (so far) that aren't on your list!:)

Into The Groove but I'm sure if it were ever released as a single. I got it as the b-side on the "Angel" 12-inch.

Into The Groove was a #1 single here in 1985. We loved Madonna so much!

It's interesting to see that you guys (UK) held onto Madonna/Michael Jackson longer than us. :hugs:
We abandon our artists too soon over here in the states. :sigh:

I think we pretty much stayed with Madonna until MDNA. That broke us!:D

With Jackson, we stayed with him until the end. And beyond..

Madonna and MJ are universal megastars/icons. It's a shame that their collaboration for "In the Closest" never came to life.

Great that you brought this to our attention. If this was a single, than it's my favourite! I think it's the greatest songs she's ever recorded. I choose Ray Of Light earlier because Drowned World wasn't a single in my country (I think).

Edit: I should have read all posts before responding. Never mind, still the greatest track she ever recorded. IMHO, of course.

It doesn't sound like you hate hate her. The early 70s is definitely the sweet spot for Aretha (as it is for a lot of soul/R&B artists).

I guess I'd say I'm a fairly big Madonna fan.

A couple of people have mentioned the song "Rain" from 1993. That's one of her most underrated songs, IMO. Great record.

Definitely difficult to pick just one song of hers, though. "Borderline," "Holiday," "Material Girl," "Dress You Up," "Live to Tell," "Into the Groove," "Crazy for You," Papa Don't Preach," "True Blue," "Open Your Heart," "La Isla Bonita," "Vogue," "Cherish" and "Like a Prayer" are all great songs -- and all from her 1980s albums.

And she had some great songs in the 1990s, too (the aforementioned "Rain"; "This Used to Be My Playground"; "I'll Remember"; "Take a Bow"). Since the late 1990s or so, however, her releases have been less interesting to me.

That's also my favorite era of Soul music. What do you think of this song?

"4 Minutes" was a No. 3 hit in NZ in 2008, so we still loved her then. MDNA and Rebel Heart had no hits at all (despite a lot of advertising for the latter). :sigh:

Yeah, I love Bill Withers. Still Bill is a fantastic album, as is the next one +'Justments.

I think Living For Love got in the twenties here, but I'm not sure if Ghosttown made the charts or not...

I know many would disagree but I personally feel like +'Justments is his magnum opus. Artistically speaking he reached a new height with that album.

It's a shame they never managed to put something on record. They never really had albums out at the same time so I suppose it made a collaboration less enticing for them.

But then, I would have said that about Madonna and Prince. And the outcome of that was "Love Song" (which I like, but I think I'm in the minority in that opinion) and, uhhh, "Act Of Contrition". :(

Those are my 2 least favourite tracks on LAP, but I take your point!
