  1. Who'll Stop The Rain. A timeless protest song, written during the Vietnam War, but the war is never referenced directly, which is why it's timeless, I guess.

gregorya I approve of this message

This would have been interesting to see as an A side/B side poll... They had an incredible run of double-sided hit singles.

Gotta give Fogerty credit for creating that image out of thin air.
Fooled everyone for a while and I for one was glad to be fooled
'cuz I love their music. Haven't read the books; know there's much
trash to go 'round but it's a great revision of American folk music
tricked up, in its time, for The Top 40. Sure got a lot of folks listening
to things they otherwise wouldn't and that was the real magic. John's
timing was uncanny as others who explored this in more pure versions
were left in the dust: The Flying Burrito Bros, The Byrds, sooo many
more. A great fusion of r'n'b and bluegrass. Who'duh thunk.

Surprised to see Fortunate Son receiving the most love. :)

Fortune Son for me, but that's a very tough poll! Was hard to pick just one. a lot of good songs, but a few that were much more than that on many levels, as well as iconic. Most bands are lucky to just have one. Proud Mary, Bad Moon, Down on the Corner....as I said, hard to pick just one. Glad I don't work for you...you would be a tough boss!

You know, it is more than just a song. It has been used so well in so many films. I think the song conjurs up a lot of different feelings for a lot of people...that is why I picked it and likely why others have as well. Any band would be lucky to have just one song like that. Imo, they have four! By the way, great idea for a thread! I am always surprised that people keep coming up with great new topics.

Yeah, I voted for that. Proud Mary for me.

Thanks for the thread, but you might want to bear in mind too that back in the day the Creedence singles were basically issued as Double A sides.

In 1969 (alone), for example, there were four:

    Proud Mary/Born on the Bayou
    Bad Moon Rising/Lodi
    Green River/Commotion
    Down on the Corner/Fortunate Son

Picking the best of these would be really tough !

I vaguely recall that over here, for example, Lodi started as the A side, but was flipped when radio picked up on Bad Moon Rising, which then went to No. 1.

The 8 above tracks we're issued together for RSD 2014 as a 10" EP. 20 minutes of magic, rarely bettered.

My favorite is Who'll Stop the Rain, but just barely nudging out Fortunate Son and Up Around The Bend.

Not really a fan. I know all the hits but haven't listened to them recently. Possibly "Green River" or "Up Around The Bend"; I know they are two I do like. But mine's not really an informed vote. :D

No, not really feeling that grimy swamp sound. I don't not like them, but no, I can't say I'm a fan. I have a compilation of their hits (a UK Best Of that has 24 songs) and that's enough for me.

I have to be in a certain mood to fully enjoy their music. The same can be said for Dylan,Springsteen, etc.

I don't see "Commotion" receiving any votes but "Cotton Fields" still has a chance.

Definitely. Electric Dylan. The Band. CCR. The Byrds. All 1960s acts I have to be in a certain mood for. Usually I prefer the pop and soul of that period.

Molina (maybe only in Europe) and Cotton Fields were released on singles AFTER the band broke up.

I'd be tempted to vote for "Grapevine" as my favourite, but not if we're talking about singles only.... the single version is an absolute travesty. It has to be the full 11-minute album version for me, or nothing. ;)
