Impressed with the OP's choice of leadoff single, one of the best bass lines in pop music. "Love Is Like An Itchin' In My Heart" was kind of missed in its day, relatively speaking.

 

Voted for Someday we 'll be together for sentimental reasons (the last with Ms Ross).

But one of those groups where I could pick a different 5 every day.

Love them both mate. Classics. Think I heard the Supremes/Four Tops version first. Maybe the vocals on the Four Tops side edge it, I donno.

 

I was mostly being a contrarian but I really do love that song.

 

If only "Let Me Go The Right Way" became a smash hit.

 

Thanks for mentioning Smokey's great "Breathtaking Guy", but what happened to rest of the pre-HDH singles? Some great stuff there - in fact, I prefer it to most of the post-Florence Ballard "Diana Ross & the Supremes" stuff...

 

There wasn't enough room. The limit is 25. I had to leave out favorites like "A Breathtaking Guy","Let Me Go the Right Way" & "You Heart Belongs to Me".

You Keep Me Hangin' On captures everything that was so great about the Supremes at their peak, so I chose that one. Forever Came Today is one of those songs I always have to listen to twice because, damn!, that is a terrific record, though not much of a hit.

 

Yes it is!

"Forever Came Today" is the peak of their psychedelic phase. (Imo) Unfortunately, it also marked the beginning of the end.
I guess it tanked because the hook wasn't as catchy/poppy as their earlier hits. Smh
