    Hello again!
We´re going further with the second soundtrack album. A mixed affair with excellent tracks mixed with lesser good tracks. "Steadfast, loyal and true". Just a school-song, nothing more. "Crawfish" is a bit odd for Elvis. Doesn´t sound like anything else he recorded.
The original album has just 11 tracks, which must have a bit stingy in 1958.
My two favourites are Trouble and Hard headed woman. I chose Hard headed woman, because I prefer the 1968 versions of the first one. The third vote goes to the title track. My overall feeling is that the music is a bit overproduced, but of course it´s the "New Orleans-feeling" that makes it.
    Vote on people!
    Regards//Björn

My brain tells me it should be "Hard Headed Woman", or "Trouble". My perverse heart made me vote for "Crawfish". It is just so darn weirdly hypnotic.

Love the whole thing except maybe "Steadfast Loyal & True."

My problem with "Crawfish" is that who ever wrote the lyric didn't know what a crawfish is. You don't catch one with a fishing pole and throw it into a frying pan, that's for sure.

My parents had a copy of this album & I played it quite a lot in the late 70's.

    "Hard Headed Woman"

but "Crawfish","Trouble" & the title track are also worthy choices

  10. I went with King Creole, As Long As I Have You and Trouble, but it was tough not voting for Hard Headed Woman and Crawfish (I love the Johnny Thunders cover). Surprised at the low vote count for As Long As I Have You, one of my favorite 50's ballads.

Yeah, the same goes for the arranging. That stuff has NOTHING to do with the sound of New Orleans clubs in the fifties. They clearly didn't think
confering with anyone from New Orleans was required.

  13. Yes, oh for Elvis to have done a completely authentic New Orleans blues record back in that era - he definitely had an affinity for the stuff with his covers of "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" and "One Night"...

Crawfish - Joe Strummer's favorite Elvis song.

    That's good enough for me!

Really not a bad song on this soundtrack LP. Even "Steadfast, Loyal and True". "Crawfish" is Elvis's stand alone/ stand out out of the other hundreds of tracks Elvis recorded this one and it's character in arrangement is one of a kind. Great rhythm section and urban feel to "Crawfish". What can you say about "Trouble" & "HHW" such great tracks.

Have to admit that several of the tracks are unknown to me at this moment, perhaps if I actually heard them they might ring a bell.

Hard Headed Woman is my first choice followed by King Creole and New Orleans. But I also like Crawfish a lot.

Some great tracks there but i'm increasingly of the opinion that Elvis was going downhill even from the early RCA sessions. I'm not sure they knew what to do with him and then the film soundtracks start. It's taken me about 30 years but i now consider the Sun sessions to be his best work. Despite being arguably the most influential artist of the pop era, he was badly mismanaged and made far more bad career choices than he was entitled to.
I'll choose Trouble, Hard Headed Woman and King Creole from this LP.

Trouble. Love the song. King Creole is also my favorite Elvis movie...still remember the smokey night club scene in which Trouble was performed.
His look and attitude was priceless.

Just for fun: Here you can compare his 1958 VS 1968 version. If the original is smoking hot, the 1968 is a vulcano!!

"King Creole", "As Long As I Have You", "Trouble". I love the Friday Music vinyl reissue of King Creole LP. Short but sweet.
Classic black RCA with white dog labels and great photos inside the gate fold jacket are nice. Flat quiet vinyl, too.
