Amazing. Still, it's not hindered her success in the poll so far...

I would have voted for Aretha, but she belongs to a different era, so I don't think she's part of the same crowd.
So, Madonna gets my vote. She defined the 80's

I always think of Aretha as a 60s act, but she did come back somewhat in the mid-80s. That's why I included her.

Going down the list I thought Madonna had it licked, then I saw Kate Bush.

Of course not. That's because she's more of a prog rocker (or, at least art rocker) than a pop star. That's a plus on this board.

    Kate Bush.

Sade. And....Stevie and Linda would rate high imo.

I voted for Janet Jackson. If Joni Mitchell were in the poll, I would've voted for her.

I'm glad Janet got a vote. Thought she'd have done a lot better than she has..

The remaster of her debut album a few years ago was very good. I thought they might have done more of her catalogue by now.

What do you mean? She was and still is a gorgeous woman all around. She's not ugly.

If I'd known ONJ would only get 2points I'd never have started this poll!:D

I like all but a few artists on the list but I have to vote for Ms Ciccone. Not a difficult choice. But if it was 80s and 90s, Janet Jackson becomes a contender.

How could you not list Carole King ?

Honestly, she never crossed my mind. I didn't really start listening to music until 1973/4 and don't recall her being in the charts at all. Apart from Tapestry of course.

Oh Bobby - she may not have sold gazzillions of records here, but the two solo shows I saw were well sold out! And she certainly did a lot for me.:love::love::love:

Yeah, I know. She deserved to be in over people like Kiki Dee and Suzi Quatro, but I didn't think of her until JohnnyQuest pointed out she was missing. You only get 25 options in these polls so you just can't list everyone.

She had several top 10 hits post Tapestry. Sweet Seasons, Jazzman. Music the album was imo better than Tapestry.

Very odd that you'd think of Branigan and others and not Carole.

Not so much here. Tapestry was in the charts for years but I don't remember her as a big chart act. Not like Diana Ross, Madonna and Kate Bush, for example.
