I need a budget CD player for the system. $100 is the budget. Any recommendations? Will be connected via RCA as it's used with older stereo receivers. Thanks.

  2. Just the plain and simple Sony 5 disc changer they are great

  3. They usually retail for 29 or so bucks more than your budget but worth it

  5. Yes, Sir. Those have done me great for years. Looks like they have gone up about 25 bucks. I know you can just walk into Best Buy and grab one, they were always 125 or so in the past. I should of gave you the part number, completely slipped my mind

I'd wait until I could up the budget and get an Onkyo C-7030.

If you have a thrift store or a Salvation Army Store...try one of those. You can probably get a used one for about a quarter of your budget. Just make sure you test it before you buy it. You'd be surprised at what you can find out there in Thriftworld. There is still quality used audio out there. Just a thought.

Thanks. Has there been a huge improvement in modern dacs and such from say a 90's Sony/Technics to a 2015 Sony/Onkyo?

If you're not scared of buying used and have a little patience, I'd suggest to put an alert on eBay and try to snipe an old CD Player rocking the good ol' TDA1541.

Here you can find a list of CD Players with the DACs they were using. Use CTRL-F or CMD-F to search for "1541" and quickly go through the list.

If you're lucky, you may find one within your budget (or maybe just slightly over - still totally worth it) in few weeks.

Yeah, I've seen the C-7030 in that $130ish range recently. I have the older Onkyo C-S5VL and it's a helluva of a CDP.

My local Goodwill had a decent 5 disc sony for 25.00 this past weekend.......something that could hold you over while the search for something better continues........

  17. Any name brand CD player would be acceptable like, Sony or Pioneer. Stay away from the odd-ball's and no-names you would find at a swap meet.

Most old cd players sound absolutely horrible, especially 1990s Sony changers. The good thing about the Sony players is that they are extremely reliable. Is sound quality important to you or do you just need something that works?

I replaced/sold my Rega Jupiter last year and bought a Teac CD-P650. Very well built and sounds very neutral..not warmish like the Rega.

Sound quality is somewhat important. I have an older Sony-Japan(1989 or so) made cd player. I thought this era was decent but I don't have anything to compare it to. Just got it because it was the same one as my first CD player. It's pretty beat so looking to replace it.

I've the original Arcam CDP with the Philips TDA1541 chip, a great vintage sounding player if you can source one.
