That's a pretty hard to answer question. It always depends on one's personal predilections and taste. . [IMG]

I'd like to mention just a few:

    'That's What You Get Babe' - Kevin Ayers (UK EMI/HARVEST - SHSP 4106, 1980)
'Handsome' - Kilburn and The Highroads (UK Dawn - DNLS 3065, 1975)
'One For the Soul' - Lizzy Mercier Descloux (FR Polydor - 827 910-1, 1985)
'My One and Only Thrill' - Melody Gardot (EU Universl/Verve - 1796787, 2009)
    'Disraeli Gears' - Cream (UK RSO - 2394-129, 1967)
'Aftermath' - The Rolling Stones (DE Decca - SLK 16415, 1966)
    'Ogden's Nut Gone' - Small Faces (UK Immediate - IMSP 012, 1968)
'Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band' - The Beatles (DE EMI/Odeon - SHZE 401, 1967)

This could be easily continued for several pages . . . . [IMG]

If for no other reason, than it is such a perfect example of how amazing a live performance can be.

I've been listening quite a lot to Deserter's Songs from Mercury Rev recently, so that would be one of my picks. What an amazing record, so quaint and precious, and yet so grandiose. Somewhat inspired by the Band's vision of Americana, but twisted up with some psychedelia and a wistful romanticism. Essential, one of the best of the 90s, still.

You could tell I was being a mix of seriousness, rebellion and the improbable.

I like to have fun in these lists and mostly search my heard for things that won't be others' choices.

You can find live renditions of nearly all their songs on music youtube plus several live shows in their entirety. Bit by bit there's a progression of Adam finding his voice. nyc tapers also offers a few of their shows in their entirety in superb sound quality - recorded at the bowery in nyc.
