I consider it the best year for music. Lucky to have been a young teenager at the time.

Quite some time ago I created a separate playlist of albums in my library for every year since I was born in 1950. My real music buying did not begin until 1969. Prior to that I was listening primarily to radio and of course singles so for a few classic years like 1967 even though I lived through it in regards to my collection I went backwards to buy them. But, 67 is sure one of the best and for me 69, 71 and a couple more in the 70's a couple in the 80's a few more in the 90's and a couple since the turn of the century. It's been a joy to enjoy.

I agree 67-69 were the best years ever. What came after was just new and different but never came close.

Definitely one of the best years if not THE best. It certainly doesn't have to play 2nd fiddle to any other year.

69 was mighty fine. Lots of great debuts.

I once went through my large collection of CDs to see which year stood out as my favorite and 1967 won. Many of the Rock titles I have were already memtioned but there were also some classic Blues and Soul albums released that year from:

    Paul Butterfield
    Aretha
    Otis Redding/Carla Thomas
    Albert King
    Wilson Pickett
    James Carr
    Sam and Dave
    William Bell
    Magic Sam
    Charlie Musselwhite

    1970 & 1971 for me... 1969 a very close 3rd. I'd put 1967 in either 4th or 5th place fighting it out with 1968.

If you were making this argument in 1967 you'd be lionizing the groovy sounds of 1919, including:

Funny - when we see all these great albums crammed into one year (whether that be 1967, 68, or 69 ...) we forget how few we could afford at the time even if we knew how good they all were. And waiting wasn't an option. Have money a couple months later? There'd been more releases you liked.

I believe the year 1966 was the pinnacle for pop music,
before the drug excesses began to take hold.

Since this is a thread about 1967; not 1969, 1971, 1919, 1977, 1983, 1966, or 1979, I will post another one the OP should add to his list:
"Absolutely Free" by The Mothers Of Invention

Any 1967 list should include the Incredible String Band...

Yeah - a few people have noted that new releases in the 60s were beyond what they could afford at the time.

How much did records cost in those days? And roughly how much would that be in today's money, would you say?

I agree that that's the turning point as far as album-oriented music goes as opposed to singles-oriented, IMO it's not the best, maybe top 5. 1980 is the best year for me. Had way more albums by bigger bands. Sheer power 1980 had.

    Ace of Spades
    Back in Black
    Blizzard of Ozz
    Heaven and Hell
    Permanent Waves
    Sandinista
    Iron Maiden
    British Steel
    Women and Children First
    On Through the Night
    Animal Magnetism

    the list goes on.
