Not only did Bob Denver get Prof. and Mary Anne into the theme, but when the singers sing their names it's like at the most triumphantly sung part of the song.

  2. This seems not to be especially uncommon, to re-record the theme song after the first season. This was also done on The Rockford Files and MASH - why I'm not sure, but certainly the second version of the Rockford theme is a lot better, since the original didn't have the lead guitar part.

  3. It makes the show more believable, considering all the stuff they had in their hut! :)

I don't know why they didn't at least keep the shot of Gilligan carrying all the luggage in the opening.

There are several versions of the M*A*S*H theme. Didn't it have something to do with union rules? Pay to record a new version each season, but sometimes older versions got used instead for any given episode?

Back to the topic, I always thought that "and the rest" was a kind of silly way to refer to two other people.

Has any Hollywood actor ever resembled his father so closely as Alan Hale Jr did Alan Hale Sr? I saw GI several years before I saw a bunch of the 1930s Errol Flynn movies where Hale Sr was a scene-stealing sidekick. My reaction was "I didn't realize the Skipper was so old". Several friends have admitted the same confusion.

Mary Ann's "cute" made her another level of hot. Of course in their prime, wouldn't kick either out of bed!

The opening theme to Starsky & Hutch also changed from season to season.

I think it's as simple as a producer arbitrarily saying, "you know, we're in season X, so how about we re-record the theme song to freshen it up!" Since it was the 1970s, they should've thrown in a wah-wah guitar... :sigh:

Tina Louise has never done anything for me at all, at any age. It was always Mary Ann
And Carroll O'Connor tried out for the Skipper

Hale got the part b/c he could threaten Gilligan in a non-frighteningly comic manner, a la Oliver Hardy with Stan Laurel (most of the Gilligan-Skipper comic business is adapted from them)

Not to sidetrack...but going with TV theme tunes...

I believe Hawaii 5-0 must've had the most variations on their theme throughout the 12 seasons of any show I know of. Sometimes it was only slight, but seemed each season or two the recording was refreshed. But the funny thing, the introductory visuals accompanying the music never changed, for the most part, as I recall. The pilot episode was a bit different, one main difference was the extended view of the hula dancer. After showing her butt shaking..they went to her face.

    Anyway...back to Gilligan's Island......

....Ever seen an early picture of Lovey ?

Much more believable than the "three hour tour" from the later song! :)

Why were the Howell's taking a charter cruise in the first place?
Shouldn't they have had their own yacht?

The Lucy Show and Rhoda had different arrangements each season. I think they take the cake for sitcom with the most theme variations. Alice too. Haha

Doh, I wish you hadn't reminded me of Linda Lavin re-singing the Alice theme every season. :sigh:
