Another early start for today's thread, what with all the ancillary July 4th activities going on.

    Wave that flag!

I'm not listening to a note of this (as a die-hard 1965-1978 that's-all-she-wrote Dead head) but I've really been enjoying these live threads as a way to vicariously experience this crazy belated wake (of the flood) and haunted send-off. Wave it wide and high!

Today will be one the biggest Holiday weekends Chicago has seen in many years. Nice weather, Fireworks, people everywhere, and the Dead. Be safe out there.

Looking forward to being home for the paid stream today! Haven't ordered yet, but would like to use YouTube on the Apple TV. Can anyone vouch for that stream vs another option?

I can vouch for it; I have a pretty crappy connection and it was solid. The issue is though there is no on demand for 30 days afterwards on you tube which MLB provides.

I can vouch for MLB as well. With the 30 day viewing button available, kind of a no brainer.

They came out on stage about 7:25 Central time, first set lasted until 8:30. Second set went approx. 9:35 (CDT again) until 11:20, short break before the encore, wrapped up about 11:30.

Drums was unusually early, about 30 min. into the set. I think the post-concert show (interviews with David Gans, Gary Lambert, and Trixie Garcia and a pre-concert parking lot report from Bill Walton) was about 15 min.

Add to that two MLB games happening within the city boundaries, and you got a lot of people in town. Most of them on foot luckily. Only an idiot would drive downtown today, that's is what public transit and bike sharing is for. Nice weather...perfect tempatures (high 70s). The only caveat is that the pretty much cloudless sky is milky. This is from the residue from the forest fires in Canada, says Tom Skilling. Everything is lining up nicely.

I can rewatch the show from last night that I bought on YouTube today. It says "No expiration" but I'm not sure what that means or how long it can be rewatched. But it's there in 720p and I'm playing it right now.

Absolutely beautiful! I so wish I didn't have to work so early and could go down just to soak up the vibe. I saw the last show here in '95 and I'd love to celebrate better times, but it's not to be.

Maybe that was only Santa Clara or they figured they were getting crushed by mlb. Good to know thanks.

I'm in Chicago, but only have a ticket for Sunday. Walking around the stadium, demand for tickets is really high. So many hoping for a miracle here, but it's probably gonna be tough. Was offered a club-level seat for tonight's show for $500. Passed on that, naturally! Unless I score something close to face value around showtime, I'll be more than happy with Sunday.

Quick thoughts getting ready for tonight:

    - It seems like Trey really shines the more they stretch out & get out there. But it's funny that on a blues like "Death Don't Have No Mercy" at SC he was very tentative. I don't mean that as a criticism - it's just that there's a unique sophistication to his playing, I hear a bit of Zappa at times in his style too. Lots of guys could jump in and run through licks & scales but he has really put his own mark on the sound.

    - I'd actually like to Bruce singing a bit more, at least more than Phil. As long as he remembers the words & cues.

    - Ready for some Deal tonight. Who sings it? I don't really care.

I ordered the PPV. Had a great time at last nights show. So many great songs left to be played. :bdance:

I probably won't get it, but I'd love to hear "Loser" sung by Bruce.
