I've been watching 1776 and will probably yet spin the cast album before the night's out. To my mind, it is quite an appropriate effort.

Kansas POKReturn was my first LP today. Not patriotic, just a band from the heartland.
I always play Tom Kimmel "Heroes" on the 4th

Mellencamp is a good choice for the 4th. How about "Hot dogs and Hamburgers"?
Also a little known B-side from Tom Petty "Heartbreakers Beach Party" (yeah) Potato salad anyone?

Sounds like a good idea for a thread. (Probably already done, but haven't searched on it yet.)
Even though its a protest song, I like the way its sung, makes it sound like its still good to be born in the USA. Which it is.

"I Stand Tall" is pretty patriotic too (and makes me miss Johnny Carson).

Nothing is more patriotic in the USA than protest.

  19. fmfxray373

fmfxray373 Capitol LPs in the 70s were pretty good.

Actually I did play Let Freedom Ring! by Chuck Prophet but it was just because it was already in the NAD cd player I have in my master bedroom tube amp set up. I guess it is about today's America.

I bought The Magic Whip by Blur on Thursday so that is the other cd I have been listening to.

I love the Boss but sometimes Born In The USA just fugues me back to the 80s too much....I have to be in a certain mood.

Charles Ives: Fourth of July from the Holidays Symphony. Ormandy Philadelphia Orchestra CBS. I also have the performance by Bernstein and the NYPO. The holidays in the Symphony are Washington's Birthday, Decoration (Memorial) Day, Independence Day and Thanksgiving. Actually many of Ives' orchestral works have American themes and songs woven into them.
