  2. Only Lauper I voted for is "Money Changes Everything", 'cause it's a great song and she didn't butcher it. I'm sure for years songwriter Tom Grey silently thanked her every time he checked his bank balance.

What's funny about this poll is that Madonna might have been the bigger artist overall, but when you get down to the top song on this list, it's most likely Lauper's "Time After Time." The major reason for that is this:

I really thought 'Madonna' would win these easily, but there are 3 or4 songs on 'She's So Unusual' that people really seem to love.

"Time After Time" is the most like a 'standard' on the list. :) On JQ's 'Why Madonna not Cyndi' thread a few people have said how Cyndi was like a 'novelty act' but I just don't subscribe to that point of view at all. How can the artist who did "Time After Time" (and later on, "True Colours") be seen as a novelty act? :shake:

I think Johnny's come off his meds again. He seems to have turned Cyndi into the 80s equivalent of Lady Gaga. And we all know what he thinks of her.:D

I really though the 'big' winner would be 'Holiday' but it's not doing especially well..

That plus Madonna's songs - while popular - generally lack substance. Like the singer. Songs like Time After Time are deeper and more universal.

I was reading up on Madonna's 'tour statistics' on setlist.fm. They have a cool list of the number of times she has performed each song live. "Holiday" ranks No. 1 on 'total plays'; that is, she has performed that song live more than any other (339 times from 1983-2015). So she likes it, a lot. "Like A Virgin" is No. 2 (330) and "Vogue" No. 3 on the list (329). "Borderline" is down in 25th place, one spot ahead of "Causing A Commotion". So she doesn't seem to love that one like all of us do. :sigh: (Typical Madonna, being contrary).

Why bother with 'Borderline' when you have 'Holy Water' and 'Bitch I'm Madonna' good to go?:D

Not really a fair poll -- I like both albums tremendously, but I like more individual songs from Madonna than from She's So Unusual, so it skews heavily toward Madonna.

My idea was to pit 2 great 1983 debut albums against each other. I love both, but I was expecting 'Madonna' to triumph easily. Not so..

I'm not a Madonna fan, although I like a few stray songs. "Borderline" is one of them, so I voted for that one.

I've always loved the entire She's So Unusual album, but my favorite songs are:

    Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
    I'll Kiss You
He's So Unusual / Yeah Yeah

I think the eventual winner would be either Don't Stop... or Billie Jean.

Think you're right about Billie Jean. Human Nature is a possible contender for the top five too I think :)

I've been thinking about what to vote for in this one... The toughest poll of them all!

If these polls were still allowed I could've done 'True Blue' vs 'True Colors'.:)

And "Colors" would win because Blue is just one color. :D
