Personally, i always liked the "Pipes of Peace" cover, more than "Off The Ground" and "Flaming Pie"...

I'm ok with the Flowers and Flaming Pie covers. Driving Rain is pretty bad.

I find it strange that during the Beatles, Paul was a key player in developing the covers of Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road. But in the solo years, after McCartney 2, there was a serious dip in the album cover department.

McCartney 1, Ram, Band on the Run, Venus and Mars all have great covers. Some are, I think iconic.

But after 1980, IMO, no so much.

Though I did like the cover to Rushes, for some reason.

I think that his 3 latest solo works have pretty cool covers, I don't really understand MAF's cover but by this point it's become part of it's experience.

    NEW's excellent

What's so bad about it?? Paul just wanted to take the piss out of himself before anyone else had a chance to! :shh:

I don't like Paul's Flaming Pie cover - to me, he looks old and worn out - as reasonable because Linda was ill at the time. However, the cover really doesn't match the excellence of the songs, except perhaps the introspective ones (eg Little Willow about Maureen's Starkey).

I like Driving Rain - it is once again Paul pushing the boundaries of art.

My least favorite is Off The Ground - but as said earlier - it says what it is and the cover is a cool blue.

In general, I think Paul's covers are as interesting as anybody's out there in todays market.

Rushes cover art is great, IMO - and the music is as well. I believe it is one of the most under-rated solo Beatles albums ever. I know there are several "Rushes" fans on this forum!

Ooh, I have to disagree about Flaming Pie! To me, Paul looks almost 20 years younger in that photo. I can see why he used it - I think it's a great photo.

I never liked the cover to Back to the egg-don t really know why-just fond it silly. Broad street I never regarded as a real album-it s just the soundtrack to one of the worst movies ever made-the cover might reflect that

Where's New? That is certainly one of his best album covers! And I actually really like the cover to Wild Life, and the cover to Back To The Egg is one of my favorites.

It's one of my favorite Paul albums.

I agree that Wildlife is a great cover...I am a big fan of Linda - especially in the 70's. Really talented photographer who wasn't afraid to try music! Pretty but confident enough to wear and look however ....think Stella McCartney has the same vibe.

Linda was such a big part of Paul's covers, from being on them to shooting them! Including Pipes of Peace and Tug of War, I believe.

Maybe to be fair, the art of the album cover has substantially changed. And not for the better, in my mind.

There have been some great ones over the years, but they seem to be getting few and far between.

Probably has more to do with the shrinking size and irrelevance of the cover image.

    And with us getting older.

Still, I didn't get the chair image on MAF. Not sure what that was supposed to signify.

A chair is a sign of death among various indigenous tribes that inhabit the Andes Mountains. It's another "Paul Is Dead" clue. ... ;)

This may have nothing to do with Paul's intentions in choosing the cover of Memory Almost Full, but the image reminds me of this quote from John Lennon:

“The blues is a chair, not a design for a chair, or a better chair… it is the first chair. It is a chair for sitting on, not chairs for looking at or being appreciated. You sit on that music… We didn’t sound like anybody else, that’s all. I mean we didn’t sound like the black musicians because we weren’t black. And because we were brought up on a different kind of music and atmosphere, and so ‘Please Please Me’ and ‘From Me to You’ and all those were our version of the chair. We were building our own chairs.”

And here is the alternate cover art as used for the Abbey Road album in those Andean countries:
