"Tantamount" has been a long-time favorite, so that was my first choice; but I will echo all the folks above about "Tropical Campfire's" - such a phenomenal album!

It will always be "The Prison" for me. Amazing, innovative concept that is above any other of his albums.
Second is "Tantamount To Treason" because it is "weird" plus it contains the incredible "Wax Minute".. the greatest cover song he ever recorded.
Third is tough but I'm going have to have a tie between "Nevada Fighter" & "And The Hits Just Keep on Coming". "NF" because the whole of side two is such a majestic listen plus side one has"Propinquity" so its hard not to love this album. "ATHJKOC" is another totally unique album with some of his best ever songs but wins because of Red Rhodes stunningly beautiful pedal steel throughout.
All his other albums IMHO fall short for being totally classic though every one (bar "Rays") has something extraordinary on it. I've never been a huge fan of "Tropical Campfires" despite the fact that it contains his greatest ever composition in the sublime "Juliana" which might also be his best ever vocal. I'll put that song up against any song in the history of music.. it's that good.

Hopefully lost for all time and sent to a far off galaxy to prove that Earth will never have to be invaded by aliens because we have suffered so much already with this hideous piece of rubbish that tries in vain to call itself "music". Now should I tell you what I really think of it?? :)

The ease with which you summon such negativity for a record album is ... notable.

I respectfully disagree about RAYS, BTW.

It's hard to pick three, but if I did, it'd more than likely be from his RCA works...

Say what you must about Rays... But there are a few gems on there. "Rays", "There" and "Follows The Heart" are overlooked and unappreciated. Especially "Follows The Heart" .. It's beautiful and whimsical. One of my favorite tracks.

Another overlooked gem is "Becoming Life" on 'The Garden'. It doesn't contain his strongest lyrics but instrumentally it's absolutely gorgeous.

Another serious contender - The Amazing Zigzag Concert CD 5, live in 1974 with Red Rhodes:

Always thought he was referencing 'Whiter Shade of Pale" on that.

My fave Nez album in all its weirdness is Tantamount to Treason. The beer recipe doesn't work, tho.

Scope J has pointed out today that another 'Favourite Nez' thread was done in 2007, and your choice has not really changed in 8 years! I agree with you totally on "And the hits.."

Another vote for Tropical Campfires - a truly lovely album. Of those on your list - Nevada Fighter, closely followed by Loose Salute. Best song - Rio.

I just cut & pasted the titles from the poll.
It's the poll that has them out of order.

  18. These three got my votes-
    ~Loose Salute
    ~Magnetic South
    ~Nevada Fighter

    Honorable Mention_
    Tantamount To Treason Vol
And The Hits Just Keep Comin'
Pretty Much Your Standard Ranch Stash
From A Radio Engine To A Photon Wing
Infinite Rider On The Big Dogma
    Tropical Campfires

  19. Dr. Pepper

    Dr. Pepper What, me worry?

I chose the same three! "And The Hits," is the most amazing two man, two instrument album ever recorded by anybody! How they manage to fill the space with those two instruments and that voice is just plain brilliant!

If you buy (and enjoy) this set, you're probably gonna want to buy his sixth RCA title "Pretty Much Your Standard Ranch Stash"...

I was wondering if this may be a case where I'll want to hear more ........thanks for the tip.
I'm really looking forward to this Original Album Classics set after consistently reading how great these records are over the years.
I'm finally going to do something about it.

How much is this set? You can get all six albums on CD for around $20 total, if you go for the excellent two-fers through the "New and Used" section at Amazon.
