You can lower your cost even more by buying a few Barnes & Noble gift cards at a discount. Cardpool is a good place. I bought two $30 gift cards for $24.50 each, so it saved me another $11.

I've been getting Amazon gift cards so I'm almost cumaught up on criterions to actually buy and keep. Rififi is the only one in thinking about for now. Recently got F for Fake, Paris Texas and M.

Been waiting for this thanks for the tip.

  9. Kurosawa titles this time around. Got my eye on Altman next time.

Fisher King and Cries and Whispers blu were gone at the brick and mortar here.

I picked up Thief and Don't Look Now at Barnes And Noble. I was tempted to purchase Scanners too, but then I passed on it.

I really liked the first season of ´Girls´, so I thought I´ll just give it a try. And 30 is my lucky number regarding each B&N Criterion Sale the last two years... ;)

I try to watch one of my new criterion titles each sunday; last sunday I watched ´I married a witch´ and enjoyed it very, very much. I kind of bought it last sale only, because it was one of the cheapest criterion titles available, I needed one last title and I just love b&w pictures. The picture quality itself isn´t that amazing, but after all at least quite decent. Also: Veronica Lake should have been a large star after that sparkling picture, what the hell happened! And there is a sequence, where Veronica Lake and Fredric March are escaping from a hotel fire and at the end after they past the lobby a burning log of wood is falling from the ceiling. It´s a small, quite simple shot; but man, so much more exciting than any CGI sequence nowadays...

Scanners came out in 1981, and used all practical effects.

I'm in the States for a business trip and picked up Heaven's Gate. I have others on my list but they were either out of stock at the store I was at or a little roughed up.

How insane is this! Today I wanted to place my order, but the shipment rates are just insane right now! Last Nov. I payed for the delivery to Germany ca. 50$. Now they want me to pay 173$ as the cheapest possible shipment rate!!! Serenity now!

I wrote them about this issue, but if that´s really the new shipment rate, it´s really not affordable anymore...

It´s also quite strange; I checked the shipping rates last week and they where the same as always. But now they are gone from their FAQs and you only see your total costs at the end of your purchase, which have been totally exploded...

Picked up "Palm Beach Story", "Time Bandits", "Rushmore", and "Odd Man Out".

Will probably snag "Limelight", "The Fisher King", and next week's release of "The Black Stallion" before the sale is over.

I think you can safely categorize them as "mind-blowing practical effects". ;):shh:

My Blu-Rays came yesterday. I was worried as I never received a confirmation email from B&N using paypal to pay. The discs arrived in 2 days nonetheless.

    The Friends of Eddie Coyle
    Cronos
Vernon, Fla / Gates of Heaven (old favorites of mine from the VHS days)

If the shipping costs really would stay that ridiculously high (the B&N customer service hasn´t replied to me yet, although they mentioned on their side they would answer within 24 hours), I will have to cut down my order at least around 5 BDs. Any suggestions, which one I should delete ? Maybe B&N will make the decision for me, because not every title might be available anymore, when I finally will make my order. That also would be my last purchase of criterion titles via B&N, because under these circumstances the normal prices on amazon.com would be almost the same for me as during the B&N 50% off Criterion Sale...

Currently I´m thinking to delete those two titles:

    450 Bottle Rocket (Wes Anderson)
    763 The Bridge (Bernhard Wicki)

But I´ll need three more; what a Catch-22...
