Not at all. I don't think everything today is horrible, maybe 20% has quality. I'll hear something on the radio and think, hey that's not bad. I believe there's still good music, you just have to dig hard for it. But, that's too much work when you can look back at 60's/70's music when 90% was quality. Timeless quality! :D

I can see that. When I was young there was only a decade of good pop music behind me. I was able to concentrate on the 'current' stuff. You've got 50-odd years to catch up on. This will spoil you for today's music.:D

I am spoiled! I don't have to wait for albums to come out, I just have to discover them. ;) In those days, did parents think the current music was bad, the way parents think of rap today?

9 LPs including the wonderful Silverbird , I don't recall a third of those songs, mainly the ones from the tail end of the glam era (T.Rex,Glitter,Suzie Q,Slade etc) - although I was only 14 at the time I never listened to this kind of music , I know all the hits of course but these "lesser" songs totally evaded me

    Oh yes.:D

I can remember my mum liking the gentler stuff like Abba and the Carpenters, but she and my dad both thought the majority of the charts were rubbish.

They'd grown up with Frank Sinatra (not literally), so I suppose they were spoilt too...

Wow, bizarrely, I remember 17 of those two (both being from the UK, wanna bet they are the same 17? :) )

Yes I remember these days very well indeed. I was just piped to the post in pointing out that this was now the tail end of Glam Rock

Yeah, Slade, for example. They were just past their peak with The Bangin' Man. It wasn't a bad single, though.

LOL, that's laughable in hindsight with all of the great music that came out of those two decades. I sure hope rap in 50 years won't be regarded as a renaissance in music!! :shake:

My brother bought 74-78 when it came out, I just loved the golden cover, he bought 69-73 shortly after too. I have the earlier collection, but would love to augment it with the latter one (on vinyl natch!) as I just adore Calling Occupants.

I don't enjoy rap, but it is massively popular and has been for a long time. Right, @JohnnyQuest?:D

The thing is that there isn't just rap in the charts I bet (not that I've looked), but if you were to listen to the whole of that top 40 from 73/74, there would be crud there too. There always was, just look at any Top of the Pops from the 60s, 70s, 80s and half of it would be rubbish, but it was the variety that stood out, there was usually something for everyone. A lot more people from different ages, backgrounds seemed to still buy records back then.

Haha, at least someone likes it on here.

Actually the only new releases I buy are Bob Dylan's current studio albums at the moment. His voice nowadays (or maybe from his whole career) is an acquired taste, but man he's the best writer I've heard.

I love this old chart from the spring of 1975 where Olivia's album knocked Bob's 'Blood On The Tracks' off #1! Bet that never happened again:D

Yeah, I don't think a lot of people realise how big she was in the States. Over here people associate her with Cliff and Eurovision.

    10 albums from this one:

    Elt's 'GBYBR'
    'Ringo'
    'Quadrohenia'
    'Mind Games'
    'Dark Side Of The Moon'
    Carpenter 'Singles '69-'73'
    'Muscle Of Love'
    'Houses Of The Holy'
and two which are still huge favourites to this day:
    the 'American Graffiti' soundtrack
    and Bowie's 'Pin-Ups'

    I've got 4 of yours.

    I'll have a look for a UK 1973 chart, though I did post a '74 one earlier.
