I used to watch this show as a kid in the early '60's, I always remembered that fish with the cigarette hanging out of his mouth. Television has come a long way since 1961:

I remember it. In Chicago it was shown on "Garfield Goose and Friends"

I remember it, too. I was a Dan, so I had to check it out. Don't remember the cigarette, though! But I do remember the helmet, and bubbles.

Thanks for posting that, I hadn't seen it since the early 60s.

I used to watch it, I think it was shown during Wonderama, with Sonny Fox. I actually found a DVD of it a few years ago. They filmed it through a fish tank to get the underwater effect. Gotta love Baron Barracuda:)

Yes, I watched that show all the time as a kid.
Interesting how primitive, but creative TV was back then.

I have a question regarding "Diver Dan." There was a company (Nostalgia Family Video?) which released a selection of these on VHS a number of years ago. They were in black and white and showed an episode title on screen at the beginning. But they used to run in color in Chicago on WGN-TV (on the Ray Rayner show). I ran across a couple color ones and they don't show an episode title. Was that just a change in format, i.e. were some B&W and some color, or did they have an option for B&W prints or color prints? And why would the B&W prints show the episode titles, but not the color ones?
