Page would be the rhythm guitarist... that's fine.

Yep. If he never plays anoher note, that will be fine by me.

There is no disgrace in doing nothing when you've already done enough.

Yeah, get rid of that singer/guitar player too, and keep Grohl and Jones on their respective instruments only, no singing. Now that could work....

The first half of that clip is great, until the youngsters get in there.

I would love one of those Fender Electric XIIs.

He should do session work for scale.

I'd love to see him so something with Geezer Butler.

Hasn't anybody found it odd that Page has not mentioned what has become of his plan that he was working on to get the Yardbirds-Anderson Theatre '68 out? He had said in the big Rolling Stone Magazine interview, when the re-masters were first formally announced, that he was going to have the canned audience noise removed and then get it released.
This may not sound too popular with some of you, but I wouldn't mind having Jimmy do something along the lines of a world music album that leans heavily on some of the more exotic influences of his musical personality-the Eastern stuff, the Middle Eastern stuff, India. Like many of you, I would prefer an instrumental album. I'd love for him to do something like this because I'm sure some of the string-bending techniques he used over the years has been influenced by both stringed and non-stringed Eastern instruments. Of course, we all know about the Blues influences. I'd be game for a Blues album as well.

Anybody else notice at the end of "Train" Joe Perry pointed to Jimmy Page that it was his turn to solo?
Then Jeff beck turns his back so Page know it's his turn. Except Jimmy keeps on playing rhythm guitar, looking like he's hoping the song will just end.
Beck comes back into view waving his arms at Jimmy like "why aren't you soloing?" Lol.

Jimmy's such an awesome guitar player when he just lets it shred. It's a shame he's so hesitant improvising on stage especially with jamming. In the 70's he would have blown Joe Perry off the stage. I noticed a change when he went out on the ARMS tour in 1983. He seemed a lot less comfortable with his instrument. Especially with doing extended guitar solos.

Although, to be fair in the right setting his guitar playing still is amazing. Check out "Trampled Underfoot" and "Dazed And Confused" from Celebration Day for proof.

Perhaps Jimmy Page can team with Roger Waters.

After all, between them no new music for over 50 years, perhaps they are due :help:

I think people should give him a break.

It's likely he is quite a perfectionist, and after producing such a great body of amazing music it will be pretty hard to top it.

If he doesn't produce something special people will criticize him even more than if he does nothing. Certainly there will be a lot of people disappointed that any new music doesn't sound as good as Led Zeppelin, which it won't...

    So it's a lose-lost situation for him.

It's a self inflicted lose-lose situation because he's been out of the game so long but promising to deliver for the last 15 years.

If he'd been releasing albums regularly then no-one would expect something special everytime. As it is, this long gestating (and long promised) solo project had better be spectacular, otherwise everyone will be left thinking 'we waited this long for that?'.

I think it's reasonable for fans to want their musical idols to continue to make music. I mean after all in the end isn't it better this way than people not giving a sh$t? It just shows how important of a person he is for people to care.
In the end like others said he doesn't help himself by promising new stuff every year, he's just making it worse for himself.

    He's 71 freakin' years old.
It's a rare artist who continues to make compelling, gotta have it music into their 70's.
It's the rare ones like Clapton and Beck who have found the fountain of youth.

I sure don't remember him promising new stuff every year, just vague ambiguous "I'm working on something" every once in a while.

Being of similar age (I first saw Zeppelin live 45 years ago and it feels really weird to see that in print).
if you would have asked me back then, "Will Jimmy Page still be making music in the 21st Century?"
My answer would have been, "God no. He'll be in his 50's."
Being a kid looking at 50 it seemed old.
Being in my 60's looking at Jimmy in his 70's I know it's old.

Why does anyone even want more music from Page?

He left a pretty damn good legacy.

I'd rather remember him that way.

Let him enjoy his 'golden years'.

The reason why Plant so quickly moved on, was because Plant wasnt nearly as involved with Zeppelin as Page was. I think people forget that, or never really realized it.

Somewhere theres a quote where Plant summed this all up, "Zeppelin was Jimmy's band".

Plant needed to step out and do his own thing, because Zeppelin belonged to Jimmy, and he knew it.

Thats not really an excuse for why Page never did much new music, but, I think it puts another perspective on this tired argument.

I see your point but this is a discussion forum, I doubt Jimmy Page is following along and getting offended by it (if he is sorry Mr Page). It's more about people being frustrated that while he is 71 years old it would be nice to hear him do something, especially if he says he is going to do something that's all. However that's probably a refection on me that I keep getting my hopes up when it is obviously probably not true.
I guess it's just sad to know that one of your musical idols is pretty much done.
