Not exactly the same thing, but kind of a parody of it, is Wire's 'Map Ref 41N 93W', in which Colin Newman finishes the first verse, then goes into the bridge, then into another bridge, and another bridge, and yet another in a seemingly endless succession of bridges (it's a conceptual joke as well, as the song is describing a landscape viewed from the air) forestalling the arrival of the chorus until he finally yells out "Chorus!" and launches into the actual chorus. Of course, to pull off this trick you need to have a really killer chorus, and fortunately he does.

Buddy Miller cues the guitar with "solo" on "When It Comes To You," my fav cut on his fine 2002 album Midnight And Lonesome. It don't count, but it's close.

How about when the singer screams the guitar player's name before goes into a solo? On Venom's album Black Metal bass player and vocalist, Cronos, yells MANTAS! before the guitarist rips into a solo on "Blood Lust". Additionally, on LID's In the Mushroom singer Eric Wagner says to guitar player, "ah, yeah, play some guitar for me" on "Mary Agnes" to Danny Cavanagh.

Jonathan Richman does it all the time. Oddly, he's the guitar player, and he's usually just cueing himself!

I don't know if this counts, but I love when John Lennon scrams "ZAPPA!" on "Well" from "Playground Psychotics" I do a roundhouse kick. Also a chilled out version of a similar thing is on "Speaking Out" off "Tonight's The Night" when Neil Young says "alright Nils..." It helps that both solos fit the mood perfectly. In a way it's very real, and proto-Hip-Hop.

Which was actually quite helpful, since in reality the guitar solo is so "treated" that I never would have believed it was a guitar if Gabriel hadn't announced that it was.

It was further proven to me that it was in fact a guitar several years later when I saw the Genesis tribute band 'The Musical Box' play the entire Lamb album live.

On "Steel Claw" from Private Dancer, Tina Turner yells "Jeff Beck!" just before his solo.

I may have been mishearing it all these years, but before the 'acapella' guitar break in 'Heartbreaker', doesn't Robert Plant shout 'Jimmy!'?

I must have seen this TV clip so many times it was the first that sprang to mind. He doesn't say it on the record though.
