First that comes to mind is getting the email that In Rainbows was available for download and giving it an immediate late-night listen. Hard moment to forget.

Admittedly this could be a long list and will really require some thought but the first album that popped in my mind the moment I read the topic was:

Chris DeVoe RIP Vickie Mapes Williams (aka Equipoise)

Most of the music I love required more than one listen to fully grok, but one that hit the definition of the OP was Noe Venables' The World Is Bound By Secret Knots. What was so surprising was that I heard it under terrible conditions - via a boom box...in a Jeep convertible...at highway speeds. My wife and I were headed back home to Chicago riding with a friend having just video recorded a Happy Rhodes concert, and the friend introduced up to this album. From the first track, Juniper, we were entranced:

    Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
My Morning Jacket - It Still Moves
    Ryan Adams - Gold

I can still remember the circumstances under which I bought and then listened to each of these.

For some reason the only two LPs I ever loved in real time, as I heard them for the first time were With The Beatles and Aimee Mann's Whatever. One in 1963 and one in 1993. Guess I'll be due another one in 2023...

Every other album was a disappointment to me on first listen, yes, Forumites, even Sgt Pepper, Exile, Nevermind, you name it.

    I can't figure it out!

  25. Black Sabbath - Sabotage
    Burning Spear - Marcus Garvey
    Queen - Queen
    UFO - Lights Out
    Van der Graaf - Vital

The rest of my favourites took a little longer, in the case of the live Magma (1975) album, a decade.
