    Pretty straightforward, which song of the two do you feel is the heavier song?

    I agree, the last :25 of Citadel alone is some grungy metallic crunch!

    Taxman = Rich men moaning.

    Citadel = Rich men...err...misbehaving?

    So Citadel it is!

    Oh yeah!:agree: I love that part!

    That said, Taxman does have a pretty heavy guitar solo, and its lyrics have more "bite" to them.

    Citadel, what a great track.
    In a better world this song would be as well known as Start Me Up.

  10. Heavier - Taxman I think maybe.

    Better - Citadel by a huge margin.

  12. Weird comparison. But the prize goes to "Citadel". "Taxman" may have more bottom end, but it's also bouncy in an un-heavy way and "Citadel" is based around heavier riffs.

  13. I'd want to give it a remix to remove those sharp pings though, as I find them kinda irritating.

    The 'pings' are a cool effect, IMO.

    That's actually a very good way to put it. I happen to love both and never gave thought to any comparison. Taxman, for me, has the edge in terms of production and it has an overall tighter sound..but that's always been a difference between Beatles and Stones records. The minute I vote for one over the other though, I'd probabl
    Are they an actual effect or just a byproduct of the mix? I never thought they were intentional.

    There was some debate on the Stones ABA thread how they were produced. I am fairly certain they are a harmonic overtone on the high E string from Keith's guitar as a result of his pedal setup and amp. I can damn near closely produce them with the right amount of gain and a reverb pedal.

    As RRB stated, there was a good discussion on how Keith produced those pings. I have always felt they are intentional and perfectly placed, never even so much as questioned whether they should be there or not.

    Interesting...I never thought of it like that..I guess it is a bit too much of a coincidence that it's there every time those same moments come up...on the other hand, maybe it wasn't intentional as it was happening but they liked it and left it alone...?

    Possible, but I've never heard them pop up anywhere else if it were pure coincidence. The effect, as it occurs, has always felt intentional, like Keith was saving the 'ping' for just the right moment. There are even sections where he plays the riffs without the ping showcasing that it was completely avoidable had he chosen to play it that way.

  22. The lyrics to "Taman" are better IMHO.
    Musically both have muscle.
    Like the solo in Taxman better.
    Like the riff for Citadel slightly better. It's a wash.

    'Citadel' is obviously heavier. 'Taxman' has a constant rhythm though.
