There are two versions (well, two and a half) of the video, only one of which is awesome. The other is hideous.

The apocalyptic version was directed by Hype Williams, and starred an on-the-cusp-of-fame Chris Tucker and, long before Bad Santa, Tony Cox. It was actually shot on the abandoned set of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, which was still standing 11 years later. The slighty tweaked second version is the one that I think most of us remember, which fades out over Tupac and Dre reciting the names of California cities. Call it version 1A.

The SECOND version is HIDEOUS. It starts with Tupac waking up -- the whole apocalypse thing was just a dream! Never, ever a good sign. An almost unimaginably bad video, especially in contrast with the almost unimaginably good Mad Max-inspired version.

Pointing a terrible video for the same song as one of the greatest videos of all time isn't exactly an answer. I'll come up with one soon, and the Mad Max version may land at #1 for me...but in the meantime, whenever I watch it (regularly), I'm stuck with the other in my head now too....

I know, right? I don't speak Japanese, but I cannot imagine what possible set of lyrics might fit those visuals.
