This is a personal thread to me :agree:

I recommend two 70s bands from my country and my district. Both are legendary here and quite known among die hard prog fans

Los Jaivas, from my city (Vina del Mar) http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=1014
Congreso, from my previous city (Quilpue) http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=3251

Both bands are really part of our musical culture.

And from more modern prog, I recommend a great band from Valparaiso, called Tryo http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=1294

Here's one of my favourite songs of Tryo, 'Viajes'. Hope you'll like them

And for Argentina, everything with Pedro Aznar on it is worth checking.
    :)

It is an interesting topic. I do not consider that the best of Latin American Prog Rock was recorded in the 60's. The best and most interesting music was created and recorded in the early 70's. Especially in the first half of the decade.
I say this because many Latin American bands in the 60's did not have its own identity and many of their compositions were heavy influenced by the rock done in the UK and in the United States. Many bands even recorded in English and made many covers from other foreign artists.
At the time when the musicians began to mix rock with the Bossa Nova, the latin floclore , Jazz, Tango, Joropo and other Latin rhythms began to appear more interesting music (mainly in Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile) the vast majority of the classics of Latin American Prog Rock are full of fusion and South American folk music.

This is a "Classic": La Banda Municipal de Gerry Weil, an incredible mix of jazz, rock, cumbia, merengue, waltz and African percussion that would pale to any band in the 70's.

This compilation also has some tracks that are more psychedelic.

Aguaturbia is also a prime example of the genre. Very much Jefferson Airplane like.
