They're always at their best! I had a lab partner back in the late 80s from the UK and she taped an LP for me that I listened to over and over for a number of years. Back then, almost no one in the US knew who they were. The LP is the one that starts out with 20 questions and ends with "It's a lemon, innit?"

    Oh; Kate Bush, of course.

    Hello,

I can't vote...There's no Kim Carnes on the list...What would Bette Davis have to say about that ? lol. I guess it's all in the draw-of-the-cards, or just a mistaken identity...

    Cheers,

    Gregster

I had that Lp as well - its hilarious, although I think jokes about 'bashing the bishop' may be lost on some viewers :D

    - it came with the live show on VHS:

I did think about putting Kim in.. She did well over here too. I just thought she wasn't a big name in the States (though I know 'You Keep Me Hangin' On went to #1 there). On reflection she should have gone in over Kiki at least. That's the thing with these polls... You always have to leave people out and everybody moans. It's why I don't do them anymore.:)

Didn't mean to moan... You remembered Pat so it's all good as far as I'm concerned! You will never please everyone though- particularly when we all come from such a variety of countries where everyone had different levels of popularity and impact.

I wasn't meaning you, so much. Granted I did miss a lot of big names out. Carole King and Joni Mitchell for starters. Never gave them a thought.

Kate Bush for me, but wouldn't Sandy Denny be worthy of inclusion? She did have 4 solo albums, all in the 70s. Obviously not commercially massive but a great singer.

Sandy Denny. Solo or with the bands Fairport Convention and Fotheringay. Up to her death 1978 she ruled.

Bobby: Here is the real question. Which female is your favorite personality, and who actually is your favorite female singer. Two VERY different things! :)

My favorite female "personality" is Madonna, but my favorite female "singer" is Olivia Newton-John. Big difference.

I voted for Dolly Parton. My vote would've gone to Joni Mitchell if she were in the poll.

You left out almost all my favorites:
    Joan Jett
    The Pretenders (Chrissie Hynde)
    The Bangles
    The Go Go's

So I voted for Karen Carpenter

Okay, Patti Smith above all, as she is a true rock god on the level of Dylan, Lennon, Young, Hendrix, etc.

I have a special place in my heart for Bonnie Raitt so she gets my vote.

But if Chrissie Hynde was in the poll I would have voted for her. No sexier voice in the world.

I don't like ANY of the artists in that list (OK, no I do like a few things by Pat Benatar) but I would have to name Heart as my fave female 70's/80's act.

Out of those on the list, I don't know if I have a favourite 'personality'. Karen Carpenter always seemed quite funny and sweet in her interviews. Sheena Easton had a nice spiky side!

None of them-I love the Bangles! They'd rocked like no one else, and were sexy Eye Candies, too, especially Susanna Hoffs! She still looks as sexy as She did back then!

  25. Rickie Lee Jones; I seem to be in a minority of one but i think she was just brill
