    Murder? "Always shouts out something obscene"? "But I gotta have a belly full of wine"? Those are kid friendly themes?

    I think you may be right about that. I first heard the album when I was only 3 or 4 years old and have absolutely loved it since then.

    Slumbers to go.

    I could in theory cut Maxwell, Darling and I want You for a few Let it Be cuts. But of course they might not work in context/flow of Abbey Road - but there are several Let it Be cuts that I like a lot more than the 3 AR songs I would cut.

    They are drawing pictures of funny characters. There were plenty of drunk characters and violence in cartoons back then too, in the days before the presence of a bully or the word "hell" in a film guaranteed it a pg-13 rating.

    The "Oh Darling" in the film is solo and very brief. "Maxwell's" is an edit of a Jan 3 and a Jan 7 rehearsal.

    "Golden Slumbers" is my vote.

    I'm not big on "What If?", but IF you swapped out "Oh! Darling" for "I've Got A Feeling", and put it right before "I Want You", that might have worked. However, the rooftop version is the best version, and having a single live track on AR would have been weird.

    No matter what they sang, the Beatles were like real life cartoon characters. So even a song like Maxwell's Silver Hammer sounds like a kids tune.

    I would have replaced 910 with Don't Let Me Down.
    I would then have replaced Darling, Maxwell and Octopie with Suzy Parker, Besame Mucho and Come And Get It.

    Golden Slumbers.

    DQ: Abbey Road is perfect as is. Even "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" and "Octopus's Garden" fit into the overall listening experience.

    I'm not that keen on them either, but on an album with 17 tracks, I'm having to improvise a couple of discussion questions. :shrug:The point of the question was as I mentioned earlier--the difference in the sound of the two recording sessions that occurred in the same calendar year.

    Golden Slumbers - only because Paul lifted the lyrics and 1/2 of it is "You Never Give Me Your Money".

    Come Together.....

    Don't think I would change anything. Songs in Let It Be don't seem to mesh with AB.

    Because they were the winners the last time this album was done? :shh:

    Isn't "Carry That Weight" the one that is one-half of "You Never Give Me Your Money?"

    Yeah - my bad. It all runs together in my head. Almost like one song.

  18. I would have liked to see the attempt of "All Things Must Pass" replacing "Maxwell".

  20. Well he's been honest about lifting it at least! He did alter a couple of lines here and there as well.

    I love the song - at this point I'm just looking for something arbitrary to make my decision.

    As Joey pointed out, I didn't even have the right song for part of my excuse anyway.

    I should have just gone alphabetical with my votes since "You Never Give Me Your Money" is my favorite on the album.

    He lifted some but wrote a lot too:

    GOLDEN slumbers kiss your eyes,
    Smiles awake you when you rise.
    Sleep pretty wantons, do not cry,
    And I will sing a lullaby;
    Rock them, rock them, lullaby.

    Care is heavy, therefore sleep you;
    You are care, and care must keep you.
    Sleep pretty wantons, do not cry,
    And I will sing a lullaby;
    Rock them, rock them, lullaby.

    Maybe "I Me Mine". The more George, the better, in my opinion.

    You forgot the bank robbery in "Money" and the "shoot me" in "Come Together".
