I wonder if there is video footage of the Isle Of Wight show for a cd/dvd combo.

Can't believe I missed this. Must have purchase.

  4. I wonder if they have fixed the audio (or are able to fix the audio) on Blister On The Moon? There is an audio dropout on the right channel at around 01:28 - 01:29. This can be clearly heard, especially when listening on headphones.

It can be heard on both the original CD release of the S/T debut album and on The Best Of Taste from 1994.

I don't think I've ever heard this track before without hearing this audio dropout.

eta: there's a spotify playlist & a comp to win the box w/ poster

"We're very excited to announce the release of a comprehensive 4-CD box set from Rory's seminal band Taste on August 28th. Alongside extensively remastered versions of their two acclaimed studio albums, Taste and On The Boards, there are previously unreleased live recordings from Woburn Abbey, Stockholm and London and demos from the period. In fact, over half the material on I'll Remember has never had an official release before now. The box also includes extensive sleeve notes with rare and previously unseen photographs.

Taste were one of the most formidable live bands in the world in the late 1960s / early '70s. Fronted by the iconic and influential guitarist Rory Gallagher, I'll Remember captures the essence of the band from their incredible studio recordings through to their mind-blowing live performances.

In a very limited offer, Universal Music's uDiscover store is offering a free A3 Taste German concert poster to the first people who pre-order. Secure your copy here:

Thank the gods; Rory doesn't get anywhere near the recognition he deserves. I'll need to get this somehow.

That's definitely the implication... and what I'm hoping for, at least.

  8. It was mentioned by Rory Gallagher's official Facebook page that the Isle Of Wight 1970 gig is to be released on DVD and/or Blu-ray soon. No release date has been confirmed yet.

I believe this performance was released back in 1971 as "Live At The Isle Of Wight", but this was only the audio from the concert.

Tis true. I've been biting my tongue waiting for an official announcement. Very cool if they've got it all sorted out now.

  11. Remember that Rory's official Facebook page isn't just run by a fan. It's run by people in Rory's camp (people close to his family). This was stated on the Rory Gallagher forum on his official website. Because of this I am inclined to believe this story is true. It's probably just taking time to complete and is probably being worked on at the moment.

I hope they have the original 1st generation film negatives as the source and that they restore them before creating a 1080p HD transfer of them. Hopefully this will result in a Blu-ray release, as well as a release on standard DVD as well.

    Yes, it is true.

  13. Looking at the track listing (see in the link below) it seems the two studio albums Taste made will be in this box set as remastered & expanded editions. I originally thought that all bonus material was going to be on Disc 3 & 4. I'm assuming the bonus tracks tagged on at the end of the S/T debut album are tracks that are from those same studio sessions/era as the main album. The same goes for the bonus tracks on On The Boards as well.

Maybe the Live Taste album from 1971 isn't included here because the people who complied this box set feel that the new previously unreleased live material is superior to the performances on Live Taste. That's just a theory.

On iTunes, I listened to the sneak previews of "Blister On The Moon" from the first album and "What's Going On" from the second album and it's all looking very good to me. They are extremely similar to the original CD versions which in my opinion are excellent. There's no dynamic range compression or limiting whatsoever - same as the original CDs - and the EQ choices are extremely similar to the original CDs, too - no boosted top end or smiley-faced EQ here. On both these tracks the top end was ever so slightly rolled off compared with the original CDs but this could be a factor of the iTunes data compression so I wouldn't like to say this will definitely be the case when it comes to comparing the new CDs themselves, in lossless. If it is, I think if anything it's a good thing since the original CDs could be regarded as a tiny bit hot.

My provisional verdict would be, if you only want the original track listing on the original two studio albums, and you already have the original CDs, there's very little point in getting this new collection because those tracks are virtually the same as what you already have. But if you want the bonus tracks and all the other material in this new collection, it looks as though it's been done to a very high standard and will probably be well worth having.

And yes, Andrew Smith, they have fixed the dropout in Blister On The Moon!

I'm new on this forum. I have found tons of useful information from here, but I finally decided to join because of this topic.
This Taste box set is the best news for me for a while, and I'm really looking forward to get it. Finally an official cd reissue of the first single (which line-up played on this one?) and the 1967 sessions.
Also the live stuff seems interesting to me. I think the Stockholm part has been previously available unofficially (FM/soundboard quality), but I don't know about the other stuff. But I'm glad the live stuff will be previously unreleased instead of Live Taste (Montreux Casino, I guess) or Isle of Wight.

Isle of Wight is being released separately later in the year as a cd/dvd combo. The cd will have previously unissued tracks.

    From Eagle Rock's website:
On 18 September 2015, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release “What’s Going On – Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970” by Taste. This is a simultaneous release on DVD, Blu-ray, 2LP and CD formats represents the first ever video release of this legendary performance.
The film tells the story of Eire's seminal rock band Taste, formed in Cork, Ireland in 1966 by Rory Gallagher, Taste had a brief but influential career, releasing two studio albums in 1969 and 1970 and disbanding shortly after their legendary appearance at the 1970 Isle Of Wight Festival, which is the centrepiece of this film. The core of “What’s Going On” is the band’s performance at the festival on August 28th but it is encapsulated by a documentary on the history and importance of Taste and setting the scene for their Isle Of Wight Festival appearance. This features contributions from Rory’s brother and Taste road manager Donal Gallagher along with Brian May (Queen), The Edge (U2), Bob Geldof and renowned guitarist Larry Coryell. Taste’s performance at the festival was so well received that Jimi Hendrix when asked on the Sunday, “How does it feel to be the best guitarist in the world”, replied, “I don’t know, why don’t you go and ask Rory Gallagher?”
The original 1970 footage was shot by Academy Award winning director Murray Lerner. The 16mm film has been restored and the sound remixed for this 2015 version of “What’s Going On – Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970” which includes all the tracks on the original 1971 Polydor LP plus several additional tracks. Bonus features on this release include three tracks from the German TV series Beat Club: “If The Day Was Any Longer”, “It’s Happened Before, It’ll Happen Again” and “Morning Sun”. Additionally there are three conceptual music videos for the tracks “I’ll Remember”; “What’s Going On” and “Born On The Wrong Side Of Time”. Rory Gallagher and Taste are also being celebrated with the “I’ll Remember” 4CD box set released by Universal on 28 August 2015 boasting remastered Versions of Their Two Acclaimed Studio Albums “Taste” and “On The Boards”, including Bonus Tracks. Also included are previously unreleased live concert recordings from Stockholm’s Konserthuset, The BBC and Woburn Abbey Festival, plus Demos of both released and unreleased material.

Am interested in hearing thoughts about it for those that dive in. I've decided to wait to see if it comes down any in price (like if released in USA instead of as an import), or at least until I can get it on sale somewhere like at ImportCDs eventually.

Thanks. Looking now it has actually come down. There are several marketplace Amazon USA sellers (from overseas) selling it for about $42-43 with the shipping (about the same as that Amazon CA price I think). ImportCDs has it for $39 (plus shipping) but have it on "backorder" (which usually means they will never get it). I'm tempted....think I will continue to wait for a further drop or a sale though b4 I jump in, even though at about $40 it sounds worth it to me.

  25. mine arrived today-super quick from Amazon Japan , along with the Beat Club Sessions(Rory Gallagher) on vinyl.
Standard book packaging. Booklet isn't very big but seems to cover the various tracks , sessions and shows. I've been a bit spoilt by the comprehensive booklets in the latest Jethro Tull reissues so anything less now looks a little meagre. It'll take a few days to work through this and the only other Taste recordings I have are the Best Of cd and two older live lps so not much to go on for comparisons.
