I loved the press secretary in the book. All in all good casting but I think that Matt Damon is too old to play Mark.

I just finished the book. Like another member here, I've been reading it slowly, savoring each page, each "Sol", each chapter. As the events of the book take place over a year and a half, it felt right not to read it really quickly - and it's easy enough to do.

I really hope this makes a good movie - and having seen the trailer before reading the book, I had the total picture of the members of the cast in my head the entire time, and if the movie IS the book, then it will be a good one.

    Looking forward to it.

Same here I'm currently at Sol.193, no doubt the film will not be able to delve too much into the extreme details but it certainly has the makings of a great movie with incredible visuals if done right. I can't wait to see this in IMAX.

Why, is this Martian some kind of pre-vert? ;)

I don't think I've ever seen the actual show. That guy is too handsome to be on SNL. I doubt he's a Martian unless it' a clever disguise... ;)

I had forgotten that I read the book a while ago. I think sci-fi (as distinguished from 'fantasy', which it now seems to be grouped with both in print and film) fans crave something with some substance. The trailer does rob the viewer of some suspense, but I'll no doubt see the film at some point.

Thanks. I checked he has no other good books yet. Apparently The Martian is his debut.

I'm not usually interested in what's being released for movies these days, but I thought this might be an exception. I ordered the novel too for $2... Can you believe it? $2... it's outrageous; I can't believe I blew a whole $2. ; )

Reviews so far are solid 93% on RT and word of mouth from those who've seen it is excellent. I'll be there next weekend for sure.
