I would argue that a different arrangement would trump any of these as being "different."

Herman's Hermits' single "Leaning On the Lamppost" b/w "Hold On." Both songs are in completely re-recorded versions on the Hold On soundtrack album. All of the Hermits comps I've heard contain the album versions of these songs although the single versions are far superior.

The single I have is on Blue Thumb ( I think, doing this from memory) and has a guitar solo and the guitar solos at the end into a fade. The guitar solos are different than on the albums. I have had I think 3 different albums as well as just listened to a greatest hits cassette yesterday with that song, and none of them are the same version as the single I have.
It isn't just mixed hotter and faster, the instrumentation is different as well as the guitar solos.

    Some I can think of:

The Zombies - She's Not There: The mono single mix has an extra drum overdub.
John Lennon - Love: The 1982 single is a remix without the fade-in.
Badfinger - Baby Blue: The US single is a different mix than everywhere else.
Paul McCartney & Wings - Letting Go: The single mix is completely different than the stereo and quad album mixes.
Pink Floyd - Another Brick In the Wall (Part 2): The famous intro and it fades out earlier.
Pink Floyd - Young Lust: The single has an intro not on the album and the outro doesn't have the phone conversation.
Pink Floyd - Run Like Hell: The intro and ending has no audience noise on the single.
Pink Floyd - One Slip: The single mix has the sections edited differently and has a proper fadeout instead of a segue.

Did I dream that there is a different version of Bob Dylan's "Tangled Up In Blue" on one of the single releases? I seem to recall it had fewer verses, a different vocal in parts, and some of the lyrics in third-person ("HE'D seen a lot of women, but she never escaped HIS mind..."). I know there are live versions like this, but this was a studio version.

    Anyone?

Genesis - Watcher of the Skies.

Completely different performance, and markedly shorter!

The Monkees - 'Porpoise Song' (minute-long coda that's not on the LP)
Jefferson Airplane - Share A Little Joke (very different mix, maybe completely different performance, I can't remember)

The original issue of the 45 (BLU114) and the original issue of the "Alone Together" LP (BTS-19, marbled wax) are identical.
I A/B'ed them last night before I posted. Perhaps the LP's you have contain re-recordings.

Night Goat by Melvins is longer on the single than it is on the album.

My BLU-114 is the same as my BTS-19. Rockledge must have something special.

Jimi Hendrix - 'Izabella'/'Stepping Stone'. Both sides are very different mixes than 'War Heroes' and 'Izabella' has a different guitar solo.

Don't know if these have been mentioned yet...

Boston More Than A Feeling -- the 45 rpm single has some huge, real ham-fisted edits
Electric Light Orchestra Boy Blue -- ditto the above, but I sometimes listen to and enjoy it

In this case, the "single "was just the radio version. So much better than the long track-- tighter, cuts out the filler sections and edits in an out[chorus:

I love the long version. I don't think it's overdone at all -unlike some songs of the era like "Give It To Me" or "In-A-Gadda" or others. BTW, why is all the early PG&E missing from all the streaming services?

On topic, I seem to remember nearly all of the Moodies singles from the big 7 to be substantially different from the LPs.

Here's a few more I dug up while pawing through my 45's:
    Ramones - Blitzkreig Bop
Mono mix, vocals have 'slap-back' echo.

    Doors - Unknown Soldier
Different gunshot, bells are mixed out at the end.

Tubes - What Do You Want From Life
Odd editing, different lead vocals, Fee's ending 'rap' is mixed completely out.

    Chocolate Watchband - Baby Blue
    No flute overdubs.

The Saints - This Perfect Day
    Different (and much better) performance.
