If I remember he had come onto the Genesis forum and started reading some of the criticism and decided he would only do the question and answers on his own forum from there on. I know there was one guy named "Keltic". I locked horns with him about his Phil bashing numerous times. He was way too personal about his dislike of Phil.

I think that's the one I went to after the Genesis forum folded. It wasn't busy enough to keep my interest. Maybe it's grown since.

Umm....OK. That's a catalog that has never sounded bad, really. The early CDs mastered by Barry Diamant sound great, leaving the AF remasters little, if anything, to improve upon, IMO.

I hope someone has the combination for the vaults that hold those three 5.1 masters. (And they get released ASAP!)

It's always such a shame that people like you don't have some access to folks at the record labels who could benefit from a true collector's knowledge of an artist's output. We've all been disappointed by haphazard reissues that omit things that a collector (supposedly the target audience of these kinds of projects) would easily consider essential. Of course, there can always be licensing problems and other issues that would prohibit certain songs from being included and that's understandable. Do some labels simply assign somebody on staff to compile some of these things without a deep knowledge of an artist's catalog? It sure seems so.

Hi all, first time poster. Phil Collins' social media feeds have started teasing the upcoming Face Value and Both Sides reissues, with the hashtag '#takealookatmenow', and - as far as I can tell - recreations of the original covers with newly taken photos of Phil. I presume the hashtag/tagline will link into that with promotional material for the reissues.

    https://www.facebook.com/philcollins/
    https://www.twitter.com/philcollinsfeed/

What's interesting is the new profile picture being used, which has led some to speculate Phil may be involved with the upcoming Bond film, Spectre. Are there any forum members who might have a clue as to any other reason?

    From: http://www.genesis-news.com/c-Phil-Collins-Take-A-Look-At-Me-Now-the-reissues-campaign-s596.html

Five years ago, Phil Collins released his last studio album, Going Back. After that, it became rather silent regarding any solo activity, of course also due to his health conditions. Also, Phil has also never really thought about his back catalogue and it's quite astonishing that to this day, there have not been any re-issues of his highly successful albums. That will change now!

Take A Look At Me Now is the name of the new campaign, that aims to bring back memories about the Phil Collins studio albums back into the music business. The whole concept has both, a musical, but also a visual dimension. Phil's albums are well known for their cover images, mostly showing Phil in different poses in close-ups. For the new campaign, new photos were taken from Phil - in the well known poses. And these new images will be the front cover images of the rereleases.
Besides this visual gimmick, fans can also look forward to hearing remastered versions of the albums. It's the first time that these albums are being remastered. Responsible for that is Nick Davis, well known in the Genesis camp for the remixes of the Genesis and Tony Banks albums. He was even nominated for a grammy award for his work on the surround versions of the 1970-1975 boxset. Regarding 5.1 - it's unclear at the moment whether or not there will be surround sound versions of the Collins albums. They are not part of the first part of the campaign, that much is sure:

There will be a bonus disc for each of the albums. This bonus CD contains mainly never before released live versions of some tracks from the album's period as well as selected b-sides and demos. The 2CDs will be released in digipak format, the digital version also features the bonus tracks and there will be 180g vinyl editions of the albums.
The first two albums will be Face Value and Both Sides and they will be released on 6th November 2015. You can buy the albums separately, but CD and vinyl box sets will also be available which compile both Face Value and Both Sides together with space to complete the collection as the rest of the series is released. Face Value will be released on single vinyl, while Both Sides will be released on double vinyl. The vinyl version do not contain the bonus tracks.

The next pair of albums will be released in early 2016. Despite the fact that nothing is confirmed yet, one can assume that the next two albums will be Hello, I Must Be Going and Dance Into The Light. Besides that, Warner and Phil Collins have also announced "further plans that will tie-in with the reissue series will be announced imminently". So we wait and we wonder, since the Collins treasurebox must be a big one and the standard 2CDs will most likely just be the starter. More information will follow once we have it.

Let's hope that the vinyl releases don't suffer from the same fate as the recent Iron Maiden UK LP box, where they miscalculated the amount of space required to fit them all.
I'd be tempted to invest. I've had various Phil Collins LPs over the years, but - weirdly - at the moment, all I have are the "Su.Sussudio" Japanese promo compilation and Going Back. I've none of the old albums. It'd be nice if the vinyl versions came with a download card for the 2CD sets, i.e., with the bonus tracks.
The difference between "old" Phil and the original covers is much more stark for Face Value, even though there's only twelve years difference between that and Both Sides.

Growing up, Collins' music was really over-played. After revisiting, really enjoy some of these songs. Would be interested in these releases if they're not butchered.

Question for Collins fans: Did he write the majority of his solo output? Any ghostwriters or collaborators? If he did most of this himself that's pretty darn impressive b/c he's got some emotional depth in these tracks.

Majority of his songs were written by him....

The songs written in partnership with another person or "covered" on the main releases were:

    Face Value:
Behind The Line (Banks / Collins / Rutherford)
Tomorrow Never Knows (Lennon / McCartney)

    Hello I Must Be Going:
You Can't Hurry Love (Holand / Dozier / Holland)

    No Jacket Required:
Only You Know And I Know (Collins / Stuermer)
    I Don't Wanna Know (Collins / Stuermer)
Doesn't Anybody Stay Together Anymore (Collins / Stuermer)

I didn't grow up when Collins music was at the forefront, so I have never had to see his work as over-played. Subsequently I believe most criticism of his work is unfair.

Most of his work is written by himself, later on he did write music with Daryl Stuermer but the lyrics were still written by him (e.g. Something Happened on the Way to Heaven). His most personal albums were written after a divorce: Face Value, to a lesser extent Hello, I Must Be Going!, and Both Sides.

No Jacket Required is by far his most pop album. At this point, most people would complain about the "dated" 80s production, but I don't see how those songs would work on the same level without it. 'Take Me Home' is the standout track for me. I even like 'Sussudio', but it gets tiring quickly, and 'Invisible Touch' is in my opinion the best Collins pop song - even if it is actually Genesis.

Both Sides is, in my opinion, an underrated album but even I can see why it wasn't successful at the time. Most of the songs could be edited down as they are quite long, and as all instruments were played by himself there is sometimes a demo quality to the songs. 'Both Sides of the Story' and 'Everyday' are the standout tracks to me.

Unfortunately I don't care for his two most recent albums, Dance into the Light and Testify. The former was supposedly an attempt to return to more upbeat material after Both Sides, but it doesn't quite work in the same way as No Jacket Required.

I'm shocked the "Clapton" version of "The Roof Is Leaking" is not a bonus on Face Value. I only recall hearing a bit of it in the Classic Albums video. Has that ever been released or leaked? And are any of those demos on the Face Value bonus disc previously unreleased?

Does Nick Davis ever respond to e-mails or questions via social media? Would love to know if he's ever addressed the hyper-compressed sound of the Genesis remasters that are largely (stereo) panned here and on most AV boards and whether those mistakes will not be made again with these new reissues.

I thought Clapton played on the version on the album and 'Tomorrow Never Knows' also?
