How many of you old fogies can still fit into old concert t-shirts? I can, at least in one, LOL.

Here's a pic I took today of me wearing a combined GnR/Metallica t-shirt. I got this 23 years ago today at a concert they played in the Orlando Citrus Bowl on September 2, 1992. It was a co-headline gig and they went back and forth as to who played last, at this show GnR came on last and I remember Faith No More opened the show. Outstanding concert, as none of the bickering that marked this tour was in evidence. One thing I do remember is that James Hetfield's arm was in some kind of sling, he sang but some other dude played his guitar parts. Anyway, 28 has turned 51, good memory. :)

Is that a legit shirt or one you bought from some guy outside the arena? That's the only way I've ever seen a shirt with two acts - looks much coolerthan the ones I had seen back in the day.

And no, I couldn't fit in one of my old shirts now - even if I knew where they were. :)

If it is a cheapie, then its held up well. Usually the print fades half off after 3 washings.

I saw this tour in Houston. Im not sure if that is the same shirt I got, but I for sure had a GnR/Metallica combo shirt. Shortly thereafter it became the first in a line of concert shirts that disappeared with a girlfriend never to be seen again.

Im in my mid 40s and I still have a Hendrix shirt from 89 that fits (well, whats left of it) and a Stones concert shirt from 1997 that fits fine. Luckily I am one of those types that weighed a skinny 170 lbs in the 80-90s and now weigh a normal 185-190 lbs.

I used to buy XL shirts exclusively. Black XL. Period. Until I eventually figured out that I am really more like a Large, or even Medium type of guy. Still have the majority of my shirts and they for the most part, still don't fit just like before.

  11. I only buy XL t-shirts and I'm not extra large. Heck my 5' 2" 110 pound daughter only buys XL t-shirts.

Yes I can. Still have a few from 20+ years ago but don't wear them much anymore as I worry they'll fade too much. Not that they are worth anything as it is, I just like to know I have them to wear.

The oldest one I have is from 1981 Bruce Springsteen. I haven't the heart to try it on.

That's a good idea. I buy for how big I am at the time, and that of course has changed, LOL.

It's a legit shirt, I bought it inside the stadium from the official vendors. I remember I didn't have the $$$ to be separate Metallica and GnR shirts, so this combo job was a nice compromise, LOL.

I remember that you could get the shirt in two versions, one with "Guns and Roses" at the top and "Metallica" on the bottom, as with my shirt, or vice-versa. Diplomacy, I guess. I always wondered which version sold more.

FWIW, last year I saw a KISS/Def Leppard show and got a combo shirt there as well. I guess when there are co-headliners they do that sometimes.

Most of them are too large for me now. :D

  18. The oldest one I still have dates from 1999, a Toto t-shirt from the Mindfields tour. I still wear it, even though I'm now twice as old as I was back then.

After losing 60 pounds last year I can. :) I sadly sold most of my t-shirt collection on eBay a long time ago(made a killing!!) so I only have a few "vintage" ones. But they do fit.

I actually have two - the standard 1980-81 Wold Tour shirt with 3/4 sleeves. Funnily enough even though the tour was supporting The River, it has the picture from the cover of Born To Run on it. That shirt shrunk first washing, and my wife wore it in bed for a number of years.
I also have a event shirt from the Joe Louis Arena that has Bruce on the front and a blue Cadillac on the back.
Sorry, I'm not a member of any photo sharing sites that I can post a picture and link it here.

I've a 1986 a-ha, a 1988 Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and a 1989 The The. I think they're my oldest three, apart from various European Son designs (remember them?).
I usually bought t-shirts at gigs, and nearly always XL, so I've still got loads that fit. I've a lovely Phil Collins one from the 1994 Both Sides tour. Still perfect. I've two from the Depeche Mode Devotional tour, one black with a slightly cracked print (my default option for whenever I go to see the Mode) and a white one which is pristine. Other oldies include a Crash Test Dummies God Shuffled His Feet shirt (with the lyrics of the title track on the back, weirdly), a Soundgarden Superunknown (complete with some fake tour dates mixed in with the real ones on the back), REM Monster (headless bear on the front: What's the Frequency, Kenneth? written on the back) and a Nanci Griffith Flyer tour shirt, all from 1994. I also have an immaculate, black Page and Plant No Quarter tourshirt from 1995.

The oldest one was a staff T given to me after working the Steel Wheels tour in 1989 and it still fits and looks like I just bought it home today.

I still have some shirts from the early 1980s - Van Halen (Fair Warning, 1981), the Cars (Shake It Up, 1982), and Rod Stewart (1981). But I doubt they still fit, LOL.

I can't fit my oldest shirts anymore (Pink Floyd - The Wall, Neil Young - Rusted Out Garage, Rolling Stones 1981) but now my kids can...those old jersey style sleeves are just too tight!

At some point, I got wise and started buying shirts in XL...not only because they shrunk easily, but when the cost of shirts in the 90's exceeded the cost of concert tickets in the 80's (around $25)
I probably "wanted more for my money's worth". o_O
