Nice! I was thinking of picking up a PLX-1000 next month, but I may have to wait and see how this turns out!

Definitely has an interesting look. Would love to see a video of one in action.

$1000+ I would guess. The new Technics line all look pretty expensive.

"The analog turntable will be completely rebuilt, Panasonic said, with new elements at every level."

Not sure how to see this. Maybe this answers the question does Panasonic still have the tooling for the SL-1200?

Definitely a clean look, with no tonearm (or place to attach one?) to clutter things up. :p

Everyone's waiting for the second coming of the SL-1200, but from the looks of the prototype maybe Panasonic is thinking more of the SP-10?

Their website has a North America option. I'm not sure if this stuff is out yet.

Having in mind the prices of their new products, and the prices of the very few recent higher end DD turntables available, I would say $5,000 plus. I also think that their PR campaign is absurd - to show some alluminium cofee table with some platter with a standard Technics rubber matt placed on top of it, and to name it "The first prototype" of something that will come in a year or so, plain silly.

Looks like their intended market is deeper-pocketed than the one for the 1200.

definitely curious. though it's strange they released a picture with no tonearm or pitch control.

May be it's a cofee table for very special occasions, and the plate is used in order to share your drink with your beloved comapnion, in a japanese restaurant fashion, by rotating it. The rubber material is chosen to prove that because of the rotating stability and zero vibration the drink will never slopped around out of the glass, so no cleaning would be nessesary (cleaning rubber is a drag)

Well, at least nobody will dismiss it as a "DJ Table"!

I have doubts this will be aimed at the 1200 crowd. I'd wager around 5K. Sooner or later someone is going to make a 500 dollar direct drive that holds up to scrutiny, they will sell a lot of tables. This sadly was not what I was hoping to hear from Technics coming back into the TT market. They should have stuck to the customer base that brought them to the dance. Just one man's opinion.
