"Sound Produced By" versus "Digitally Remastered By". What's The Difference?

While playing one of those Dick Bartley CDs. I noticed the booklet said Sound Produced by Bill Inglot and Digitally Remastered by Dan Hersch. I don't quite get the difference. What was Bill Inglot's role, if Dan Hersch did the remastering?

 

My guess is Bill Inglot did the supervising, directing and coordination for the project, and Dan Hersch did the (re)mastering itself. You'll see their names on a lot of CDs, as they frequently work together.

 

So if the CD sounds a bit bright, that would be because of Dan Hersch's remastering, and really has nothing to do with Bill Inglot? What's throwing me is that it says SOUND produced by Bill Inglot.

 

I have think Inglot and Hersch are equally responsible for the brightness. That is the typical sonic signature of their work. Blame whoever you want

 

There's a sound producer at Sony named Bruce Dickinson, and I've noticed that, no matter the mastering engineer he works with--even usually reliable names like Vic Anesini and Mark Wilder--the result is loud and compressed to hell.

On the other hand, if those guys work with, say, Bob Irwin, their work turns out great.

 

And when Inglot worked with Ken Perry in the '80s, their work was also bright.
