Yup, I'm in the market for a serious sub, again.
I'd like your opinions on what will ROCK OUT.
    Thanks

WOW. I guess when I mentioned serious I should have made some restrictions.
Never heard of Danley, there DHB218 caught my eye, four feet by four feet by two feet, 14,400 watts , two 18"drivers.

For what purpose? Music or HT?

My knee-jerk general subwoofer recommendation is still SVS.

The sub by Bruce Thigpen is really something. I know someone who was at a demo. He said "The pictures were about to bounce off the walls".

This is the real deal up to 20Hz or so. Discussed the product with Bruce Thigpen during the design phase and eventually heard it. Impressive to say the least. Truly considered it at one point but reality finally sunk in...

While probably not in league with some of the options thrown out so far :))) I'd put my HSu Research VTF-15h as one of the biggest, baddest subs you can buy for the price. Pretty flexible amp, tunable ports, and won't break the bank. Heck I got mine on CL for $650 and it's broken a picture frame or two in its day (damn you Tron Legacy!!). They have an updated version out nowadays.

Tim - a pair of Wilson's Thor's Hammer should probably do you just fine. Watch out for structural damage though! :D

    Music.
I remember reading about that when they were building it, definitely the ultimate sub.

    Anyone know the price ?

If you have some basic wood working skills and have the wherewithal, I recommend seriously considering building an Infinite Baffle manifold into your house. The sub in my basement is dual 8 ohm 15" drivers in a cube manifold, wired in series presenting a 16 ohm load to a Vestax VDA-1000 running bridged mono. The result is the most pure smooth perfect bass I've ever encountered. Perfect for music or movies. Google "Infinite Baffle Subwoofer" for lots of design ideas.

The manifold is behind what appears to be an A/C return vent in this photograph:

    Here's what's behind the vent:

    Hi,

Based on your mains and the fact it's for music use I would recommend...........

    2 x 12" sealed units

Your mains have 8" drivers so (assuming a decent sized but not huge room) I would expect the speed and tightness
of sealed 12" subs to match up better for music use than bigger 15" or 18" models.
Two will give a smoother response and a bigger soundstage without having to work hard.
Never really been a fan of ported designs for music but that's just MHO.
Can't really recommend a brand but you COULD start by listening to Revel's own B112's

Regarding size I guess it really just depends on if YOU are happy to maybe trade a little quality for deeper extension.

It's been my experience that....... the bigger the sub........ the less "musical" but of course room size and personal taste plays a major part.

    Cheers

I believe one retails for around $22,000. ......not including amplifier to power it of course.

Actually, I'm going in to audition a pair of Revel Rhythm 2's this morning. The stereo amp I'm considering purchasing has a built in 80Hz cutoff for the speakers when used with a sub. Might be interesting to see if it all works like it should. :shh:

    Very nice indeed.
I did something very similar at my last residence but with one 18" driver and a heavily braced and fortified MDF built in-wall cabinet.

I've got some experience with JL audio and SVS . Even the ported SVS is very musical. It knows when to lay back and when to make the windows jump.

I'd recommend SVS. Their $1000 models, SB 2000 (sealed) or PB 2000 outperform most subs twice their price.
