Probably as well as the SP-10 did.

    Yaaaaayy!!!! Technics is back!!!

Looks like a new version of their classic SP-10 series. I hope they maintain or improve the technology of their old models. The specs on newer direct drive turntables are appalling when compared to the classics.

Now we need to get Sony to revive their Biotracer turntables.

  7. I am predicting $30,000, in line with what VPI is charging for the Classic Direct.

For real? I was hoping Panasonic's economies of scale could keep something like this in the <$5k range.

  11. The other new Technics top of the range products are priced above $30,000, actually.

If they've put R&D time into improving the SP10's performance, it's a pretty safe bet that they're going to be charging accordingly; without the vinyl radio broadcasting market to spur sales, relatively few are likely to be sold compared to when the SP10 mk II and III were in production. If the new 'table is moderately successful, perhaps they'll eventually start selling updated versions of the lower-range direct drive units like the 1200. Even with the vinyl revival, there just isn't the broad demand for turntables that existed when Technics was developing and marketing their spinners.

It is one of the quietest tables on the planet. ;>0

but, with a Rega/Moth arm that could be some table.

How ugly it is totally distracted me from the fact that it doesn't even have a tonearm.

  17. Looking at how "over machined" that motor is, I now even more firmly believe the turntable will be priced as a "vanity audio" product.

I'd love to have this drive system paired with a really high-end arm. That would be glorious.

I'm still skeptical, most likely it will be made in China or at least assembled from Chinese made parts (which probably in modern world can't be avoided) = not a great quality and intentionally short life of product.
I think it's pretty stupid to pay $1000+ for something like that while still a lot of good vintage turntables are around. Sorry, just my opinion.

The 1200, not having been produced for a few years, now fetches circa $1000 in several markets, particularly if its NIB. Technics/Panasonic has a good research team, and I wouldn't doubt the new 'table will perform well, probably in some ways better than the previous top-of-the-line.

The Motor is like the one used inside the VTR head drum .

I agree. It looks like it was made from an old metal shed.

Maybe they could class it up. You know, gold plate it or something. :)

  24. Reminds me a bit of the Brinkmann Bardo motor. I'm a bit surprised that they abandoned the "platter as motor" concept.
