I downloaded every Kiss album from the 1st to Monster including the solo 's the first box set and the live albums. which ones are really essential and which ones are real dogs not worth keeping or should I go thru each one and pick what songs I like?

I like all Kiss through the 70's and early 80's. After that I pretty much stopped following the band.

The original makeup era (73-83). I include Lick It Up since they still were in makeup during the recording. It's a decent album. If you want it thinner I'd go with Alive, Destroyer, R&R Over, Love Gun, Ace Frehley, Creatures Of The Night.

If you already have them all, why not either keep them, or listen to them to see what you like and keep just those?

Each KISS CD has its moments. I love them all, although I'm not that keen on "Animalize", "Asylum", "Crazy Nights" and "Hot In The Shade". But those albums still have some songs worth hearing.

Sorry, I can't buy all he says as preferences because all are different. These contradict somewhat. Feel free to jump on me.........;)

Dressed To Kill A.......for me one of their top 5. As good as the first two or better.
Dynasty a D+.......... More like a C. I didn't like it when it first came out. I have grown to like more if it. You still have 2000 man, Sure Know Something and Magic Touch. Certainly better than albums given C's in the 80's.
Unmasked B+ This and Creatures get the same grade? No
The Elder A- as good as their top albums? No!
Creatures B+........its their best since Love Gun. An A or A- at that point
I actually like Hot in the Shade. Way more than The Elder. I know some really like it though I have no idea why. A D- is harsh. As good as Crazy Nights and Asylum
Revenge a B-......their best since Creatures. B+ album for me
Kiss Unplugged B+.........a strong A+ album. The extended DVD version even more so. Excellent versions of Comin' Home, Goin'Blind, Every Time I Look at You, Rock Bottom etc....
Carnival of Souls C.........No, its a B album. I liked it. Its a shame when they released it after the reunion. Better than anything in the 80's except Creatures and Lick It Up.
Monster is not an F album. That is ridiculous. Way better than Sonic Boom. I enjoyed Monster.

I have all the CDs up to and including Lick It Up, plus the solo albums and Killers. The music on all these albums is worth it to me and should be in every KISS fans collection. I may eventually pick up the albums Animalize through Revenge but anything after that would be my cutoff. KISS had a very good long run of albums but after Revenge I have no interest. They're legends anyways, so it makes no difference what I don't like of their more recent output.

The original six-pack is all I can really give any credibility to.

Those six albums are amazing that they came out over a four-year period of time between 1974-1977. That is unequaled.

Looking at those classic album covers reminds me how brilliant these guys were at creating and marketing an image that stuck. I don't really listen to them but they do make me smile just knowing they're out there!

I'll shout out for the 3 solo LPs - Gene, Paul and Ace - all of which have really great moments - the Beatle-y songs on the Gene LP are really great

I believe they were on the verge of oblivion, on and off, during the poor sales period of the first three albums. They had their butts saved by Alive! Yep, glad they existed too. :righton:

Why get rid of any of them? I doubt you'd even get a buck apiece. If you want to de-clutter just box them up.

I always find it interesting that the first three are actual pictures, then the next three are drawings. I think that really added to the mystic especially for kids my age at that time (under 10).

Plus the recording/release of two albums each year up to Alive II.
