I know. But do we know if that version is used, or if ir is just the singleversion.

Well they used the live vocal version in Anthology. Yes, they will use that unique mix IMHO..

From what I remember, that mix was a sync-up of the mono 'live vocal' version and a stereo remix of the master.

One problem...the album should be based only on the singles charts, so EPs would not count. Otherwise you may as well add #1 albums too (EPs and albums rarely sold as many copies as singles) ;)

Only 'Long Tall Sally' and 'Magical Mystery Tour' reached #1 on certain UK charts, so the title tracks from those EPs could be included ('I Am The Walrus' was part of two different #1 45s, so maybe that could get the nod too).

My understanding on AHDN is that Apple screwed up - they had the chance to buy back the film a few years ago, but they let it slide, either their timing was poor or they didn't stump up the asking price (which wasn't unreasonable). It's a shame as they SHOULD own it now, but they dropped the ball.

I'm trying to get a handle on the Hey Jude video.

There is some interesting stuff here: http://wogew.blogspot.com/2008/12/hey-jude-4-screen-comparison.html. Michael Lindsey Hogg says they did seven or eight takes of Hey Jude.

But Winn's Way Beyond Compare lists only three, which were used in different arrangements:
    • Frost on Sunday television show - take 2.
    • Smother Brothers show - edit of takes 1 and 3.
    • 1996 promo - take 1.
    • 2000 promo - take 2.
    • Anthology - edit of takes 1, 2 and 3.
The new 1+ release has two versions. I'm guessing the take 2 Frost version and the take 1/3 Smothers Brothers version? Or maybe the take 1 version?

Hey Jude and Revolution were filmed the same day, with live vocals on top of the regular versions of the songs. Lewisohn lists a dub of the basic track to Revolution take 16, to be used while filming, adding live vocals. But he does not indicate this was done for Hey Jude, stating "Paul sang live to his own pre-recorded vocal during the body of the song and then sang entirely live in the long refrain". So what happened to the pre-recorded vocals during the refrain?

Also, would the live orchestra performance also be included in the video?

It was faded down or out when making the backing tape to be used?
That makes complete sense, because while Paul could pretty easily sing live to the lyrics to the song itself (and thus the film would show him singing the right words), it would be almost impossible for him to remember all the screams and ad-libs that were done during the refrain. Eliminating the recorded vocal track from this portion of the song solves that problem. We only hear the words he is actually singing live.

But wouldn't this have also faded the instrumental backing? Do we know what pre-recorded backing was being used? I am assuming the mono single.

They would have had to make a mix specially for this purpose. So that's what they did.

I thought EP's charted in the singles chart in the UK in the 1960's or have I got this wrong ? :)

The harmonica on the mono mix was a direct-to-mono overdub which means there can't be a stereo mix of it.

I am sure I have a 'True Stereo' version of it, thinking about it could be on a Bootleg and fan made or a totally different take, maybe its on one of my Ultra Rare Tracks silver Cd's, there is so much to go through to try and find it :(

If it is on a bootleg somewhere, then they must have just synched the mono mix with the stereo mix.
A true stereo mix of it isn't possible.

The singles chart originally just counted sales irrelevant of format, both Lps and Eps had their own Charts though. Even The Beatles albums charted in the singles chart at times, With The Beatles certainly did.

Any idea what year EP's were not counted in the singles chart then, this is very interesting to me,it would be a bit much to put the whole of With The Beatles on my number 1 comp

I found this which is quite interesting and explains it more in detail http://www.thebeatlesrarity.com/2012/07/12/asknat-from-me-to-you/

I guess I must have the complete Take 8 of From Me To You on something its going to be a pain trying to find it, so maybe I will stick with all mono on my comp until 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' :)

Interestingly Magical Mystery Tour is listed as a UK 'Single' in my 'Guinness British Hit Singles' book attaining Number 2 on there chart but none of the other EP's are listed, so would 1967 be the year that the EP chart ended ?

Throughout the UKs chart history, if an EP sold sufficient copies to outsell every other record regardless of format, it would be Number 1 in the singles chart. The same would apply to an LP. It was in 1968 that this practice was brought to an end.
