Missed this post earlier in the thread. Pretty amazing that Phil Collins had 11 top 10 hits in 1985-1986. With these five, plus the four singles from NJR, and then his duets with Phillip Bailey and Marilyn Martin, "Easy Lover" and "Separate Lives," he was on fire during those two years.

No mention of Whitney Houston yet (or did I miss it?)? Her first two albums, from 1985 and 1987, featured numerous hit songs.

The '80s were full of blockbuster albums. I just thought of another classic: Lionel Richie "Can't Slow Down." Don't think that has been mentioned yet, but it has All Night Long, Penny Lover, Running With The Knives :), Stuck On You, and Hello.

It was also from probably the greatest period for soul albums IMO. In a short period alone (say 1970-1973) you'd have the likes of:
    Curtis Mayfield: Curtis, Roots, Superfly,
Marvin Gaye: What's Going On' & Let's Get It On
Sly & The Family Stone: There's A Riot Goin' On & Fresh
    Stevie Wonder: Talking Book, Innervisions
Al Green: Let's Stay Together, I'm Still In Love With You & Call Me
Bill Withers: Just As I Am & Still Bill
Gil Scott Heron: Pieces of a Man
    Isley Brothers: 3+3

and thats not even getting to the the likes of Baby Huey, Aretha, Ann Pebbles... I mean, DAMN!

Also released in the 1980s, Richard Marx's "Richard Marx" from 1987 and "Repeat Offender" from 1989 each featured a raft of radio-ready hits.

"Richard Marx" included: "Don't Mean Nothin' "; "Should've Known Better"; "Endless Summer Nights" and "Hold On To The Nights."
"Repeat Offender" included: "Satisfied"; "Right Here Waiting"; "Angelia"; "Too Late To Say Goodbye" and "Children of the Night."

The Beatles Let it Be (1970) only had three singles released from it but all three reached the Number 1 in the US.

"Get Back" #1 Billboard Hot 100
"Let it Be" #1 Billboard Hot 100
"The Long and Winding Road" #1 Billboard Hot 100

It only had three big hits. The last two hit on the Rock charts but did nothing overall.
