I watched "Dawn of the Dead" today and was reminded how well this type of story can be handled. It also reminds me how these current shows "borrow" so much.
Totally agree, one episode the dad can't bring himself to shoot a zombie at medium range, the next he's almost beating a person to death and shooting his ex wife in the forehead with very little hesitation and he's the least dangerous adult in the group, you wouldn't want to run into this bunch if you were a fellow survivor.
Having served in a rifle sqaud, myself, you're putting too much faith in the military. Haha! These guys we're clearly already pulling out. Plus, you'd be surprised at how little armament the typical company has. One heavy weapons platoon, and then three infantry platoons.
Yeah, I don't think the US has had any quad mounted M2s for over forty years, that's the trouble with the military, always training and equipping for the wrong war, not the one they end up fighting and not the zombie apocalypse.
Btw, if you want to see an exciting (horrifying) scene where the military handles a 'zombie' (technically rage virus, but whatever) outbreak in a panicking crowd, watch 28 Weeks Later. Very good film!
The network ordered a 2nd season by the end of the 2nd episode, the 2nd season was probably part of the original package deal. This is probably the only reason there'll be a 2nd season, because if the decision to produce more episodes was based on what what was presented this 1st season I doubt we'd be seeing any more of this. It was simply not done right. An interesting premise, I think the decision to NOT shed any light on the origins of the outbreak pretty much handcuffed the writing, making this show a TWD/West inevitable. With this group lacking everything that the original group has, there's simply no reason to continue following them, who cares? Not being a TWD fanatic, I've seen all the episodes once, I really doubt I'll be tuning in when this returns.
The final episode will bring me back for Season 2, I'll probably wait it out and pick up the Blu-ray. That's how I've watched all of TWD and the quality is noticeably better than the HD broadcast including the terrific score by Bear McCreary's brilliant score that gets better every season. I'm on social media quite a bit and still find it easy to avoid spoilers for the most part. There was, in 2004 directed by Zach Snyder. It's very well done and has a high rating on IMDB of 7.4 from over 180,000 votes, 75% on Rotten Tomatoes. Hard to eclipse the original but certainly worth a viewing. The cast is well done and Sarah Polley is on the money as usual. The opening scene, so good.
The last episode wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great, either, and that is far from a reason for me to continue. That shot of the boat was pathetic. I think I actually said "Seriously?" out loud. This show had tremendous potential with a great premise and squandered most of it. The inept writing, clunky dialogue, improbable situations, and uninteresting characters really turned me off. I stuck around for the full six episodes, but I will not be watching when it starts back up. I simply cannot get my mind off an imagined AMC meeting where they theorize that they could slap anything on the air and people would watch just because of the Walking Dead connection. It's a real shame that Frank Darabont and the network fell out so terribly; while he has far from a perfect track record, I doubt he would have come up with something like this. If season 2 doesn't step up, they're going to tarnish the brand. In a few days, the real show will be airing, and I predict I will forget about this show. Dan
I liked the season and I am looking forward to season two. Love the idea of them getting onto a ship and ending up on a Zombie Gilligan's Island.
What is that irritating obsession with cute girls in TV series ? How does a cute girl make a stupid series better ? Do you guys not know PORN ?
Did someone notice that FWD 's score is written by Atticus Ross ( musical director of Brian Wilson 's biopic" Love & Mercy") and that one of the final episodes of TWD last season, the song "love & Mercy " was used to make the zombies come back in the van?
It's the second one i'm talking about I think 28 Weeks Later even surpasses 28 Days Later. Not bad for a sequel.. Back on topic: it has been mentioned before but the CGI often looks horribly bad. How expensive can it be to get a shot from a ship a few miles on the water...?
