Some of them including the singer already tried a comeback in the 90s, when those Oldies-Concerts with several acts put together were extremely popular in Germany. I attended one of those shows in one of the biggest concert halls. And while most of the acts (among them Slade 2 and the Hermits) were welcomed by the audience the reaction to the Rollers was ice-cold.

I met the band (minus Les) one lunchtime in May 1975 at the Cramond Brig Pub on the outskirts of Edinburgh. I got their autographs for a girl in my form class, and this was pretty much at the zenith of their popularity. The reason Les was missing? When I got back home in the evening, it was all over the news that Les had knocked down and killed an elderly lady in his car.

Never heard of them in the US prior to 1975. I don't recall that anyone past teeny bopper age had any interest in them. They appeared to be a sad attempt to reignite the British Invasion with Howard Cosell (on whose show they debuted) making a sad attempt to reincarnate the Ed Sullivan show.

My friend Pat and myself saw them forty years ago (when we were fifteen) at the Mecca in Blackpool. We had absolutely no interest in the band (and the crowd was disappointing), but we figured that for £1 entrance fee we'd know where all the teenage girls were that evening.

The BCR gained few longterm fans from their one-off UK only hit in 1971 (which as far as I understand it, was practically a Jonathan King solo record with only the original lead singer Nobby singing in unison with King's guide vocal).
The transatlantic Rollermania era with the classic line up didn't start till 74-75 - fans of that time would be 10-15 so you're talking age 55 at the very highest margin. 'Keep on Dancing' is to the BCR what 'Go Now' is to The Moody Blues - a one off hit from a very different early version of the group that just happened to have kept the same name later. Neither of these 2 early one off hits had anything to do with each bands later success - in both cases they had pretty much start over from scratch.

They did redo the song on the 'Once Upon A Star' album.

They weren't as popular as other groups that appealed to their age group such as kiss, but they got a lot of exposure and at the time one hit song was enough to propel a band into the mainstream.
Saturday Night got a hell of a lot of airplay.

They were a completely different group to Kiss. You couldn't get two groups who were more different.

Once you get past the image and the terrible costumes, there's some classic stuff in there, classics like Shang-A-Lang, Bye Bye Baby, Saturday Night etc....

Their albums are actually pretty good!

It's hard to imagine now, but the Rollers were very much the One Direction of their day. Even harder to imagine as none of the Rollers were exactly hunks.:)
