Nice classical vinyl collection you have. This Decca LP looks pristine in its glorious laminated cover.

Hey, would you mind taking a look at that Decca Solti/VPO Bruckner 8 and seeing if it gives the location of the cover shot? It really reminds me of somewhere I've been! Thanks!

It doesn't give the location, it's I presume a detail of a painting by Casper David Friedrich called The Cross on the Crag.

Yes, sorry, just getting to grips with the complexities of these forums:).
It reminds me strongly of a place I saw to the East of Vienna a couple of years ago.

    Cheers!

If I'm not mistaken it's the Sankt Florian Monastery in the town of the same name in Austria. Bruckner was sent there to become a choir boy.

Spot on! That's indeed the building pictured on the Solti album.

The town is about 10 miles/16 kilometers from Linz. Forgot to mention that Bruckner worked at the monastery as an organist; he is buried in its crypt, below the organ.

I know that many of Brendel's Philips recordings are too mannered for a lot of people, but I have a soft spot for them and looking at its contents again I find this set very tempting. Unfortunately, its pre-order price is off-putting... Hopefully it'll come down after the box is released.

Talking about big pianist boxes, I wonder what exactly will be in the upcoming Emil Gilels DG box.

Have you tried the Kyung Wha Chung with Charles Dutoit? I think it has very good sound for a 1981 digital Decca. My copy of the Kyung Wha Chung is from the box set of her complete Decca recordings.

The violinists' names are spelt "Szeryng" and "Heifetz" and the work is "Symphonie espagnole" :)
