Damn, they played "Birdman?" I love CoL and was telling my buddy who I went with I was sad it was the only album they didn't do a song from in Boston. But we got "Sennen" and "Chelsea Girl" and "Like a Daydream" so I can't complain :)

I'm pondering a trip out west for other reasons, but I may try to finagle it around one of these shows. Are they continuing doing "Nowhere" for the US shows?

I really think Nowhere is very poor compared to the eps

I love Nowhere, but I take your point that the EPs, particularly the first three, are probably the peak of the band. After' Leave them all Behind' they declined pretty quickly, in my opinion. I have a theory that 'Carnival of Light' flopped not just because of its change in style and it being out of sync with Oasis, Blur etc. but because people were already disappointed with Going Blank Again as an album compared to what went before . . .

I like Slowdive's first three EPs better than their first album as well. Both albums are still enjoyable though.

First time I saw Ride Slowdive were supporting. I went out and bought the first EP on vinyl - still have it. Second EP was good too, from what I recall . . .

Me too! Although, technically I was there more for Slowdive. Great show that cemented my respect for both bands.

I'd love to see this bill happen again.

I do love "Just for a Day" but they really should have included 1 or 2 of the EP songs like "Slowdive" and "She Calls".

"Nowhere" is near-perfect to me, though.

Interesting take...I love all of their stuff but for me, Going Blank Again is the perfect blend of the early stuff on Nowhere and Smile (the EPs), and the melodic/power-pop/rock of CoL and Tarantula (both of which I also like)

It's more a UK take, I guess. Most of the people I know felt GBA was where they lost mementum. Twisterella, if I recall rightly barely scraped the Top 40. People seemed to move onto other bands pretty quickly after GBA.

  14. I like both albums too, but I think both are flawed due to a handful of the songs being written in the studio. If they'd taken more time to come up with two or three more strong tracks before going to record, both albums might've been even better.

I have a soft spot for CoL, I just miss the noise of the early days. There's some good playing on Tarantula too, but it's just missing something for me...

I think you are right. I thought GBA was very good, but twisterella single was average at best

Anybody got the Blue Day compilation? Is it worthwhile?

Last night, I tracked down a tape of the Boston show I was at...listened to it and it's just as good as I remembered. Man, those guys put on a hell of a show. I only hope this tour over the past year leads to a new studio album or at least a live album...

Yeah, but they're seven killer songs.

The two-CD reissue of "Just for a Day" has the songs if you'd like a cheaper option.

Seriously, the only reason I didn't respond to that is because I wasn't sure if he was making a joke or not...glad I'm not the only one scratching my head in bewilderment.

  25. Sure - you know, the Who cover, "Leave Baba O'Riley Behind"?
