Not interested in a box set just a single disc comp for my wife.

Looking at the original Best of from '75 or the newer Reflections which also covers the Epic and Arista years.

7 of the 10 tracks from Best of are on Reflections (Night Owl, Attituide Dancing and So Long are missing).

Any comments on the sound? Original Best of, RM'd Best of (is it HDCD?) and Reflections.

    Thanks

There's a real good one on BMG that got released in....2001??
Sonics are ok. Much more complete than the Elektra one that's been out since 1978 or somethin'.

I think it's called Carly Simon Reflections....

I can't recommend a single disc best-of, but in 2002, Rhino put out an excellent two-disc set called "Anthology".

I've got an original West Germany red label "target" like labeled ELEKTRA pressing, that I used recently for a homemade BEST-OF CD-R of Carly! The sound of the songs from that "BEST OF" are light years better than the sound found on my 3-CD "Clouds In My Coffee" box set on Arista! That box set is another great example of mine, of how Ted Jensen's work is subpar to other remastering professionals!

How is the 19 song "The Very Best Of Carly Simon: Nobody Does It Better"?

That's the one I've got. Sounds pretty good, nothing missing song-wise IMO. However, if you're into packaging and liner notes and all that stuff, look elsewhere.

The 20-track Reflections on Rhino/Warners is pretty damned good.

Excellent. The surround mix is a little wacky, but good. Stereo is great.

I think they mean "Waited So Long", track 7 on "No Secrets". That's the album that most folks know all the way through. The others, while good, do not have the sales of No Secrets. (I think "Boys in the Trees" is her best of the Elektra's, but what do I know?)

Just double checked the track listing. Should be "We Have No Secrets".

Was trying to track down the song "So Long" by Abba (found out it's on their S/T album) while I was searching Carly Simon.

I just ordered this one. I really like the flow so to speak of the song order as I listen to sample clips from this comp, despite the fact that I am usually more of a chronological order kind of guy. I always loved the song "Nobody Does It Better" from the Spy Who Loved me but didn't realize that was Carly Simon.:hide: The comments regarding the sound quality have been positive. I'm looking forward to spinning this one what it arrives. I think a good single disc comp like this will satisfy my Carly Simon needs.

Honestly, my favorite compilation of hers is the promotional CD that was issued to promote her 1995 Clouds In My Coffee box set:

    1. Let The River Run
    2. You Belong To Me
    3. Nobody Does It Better
    4. Coming Round Again
    5. You're So Vain
    6. Angel Of Montgomery
    7. Raining
    8. Jesse
    9. Someone Waits For You
    10. You're The Love Of My Life
    11. The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of

All killer - no filler, as they used to say...

No way that would satisfy me. It is missing some of my favorite tracks of hers while including some that I don't even know from just looking at the titles. It looks like it's far too weighted towards her later years, and in my opinion her best work was done during her earlier years.

Got to agree. I'm a big Carly fan and have yet to hear any of her work sound better than the No Secrets DVD-A!

Yeah the stereo from that DVD-A is superb.

Just did a needle drop of her 10 song 'the best of' from 75' which was a waste of time sound wise. I've got a few of her other LP's like 'boys in trees' which I hope will have better sound.

yea, you get the UK hit Why which was never big over here. It's an interesting song, very unlike her other stuff; of course, she didn't write it.

Has anyone picked up Carly's Sony PLAYLIST CD from 2014? I would think it features a more modern remastering that '04's Reflections? I have Reflections but was curious if Playlist is a sonic upgrade?

I don't have it, but I see it is mastered by Dave Donnelly, who does a lot of the Playlist CDs. The sound quality on the ones I have does vary a lot from loud/compressed to nice/easy on the ears, so it would seem that Donnelly masters 'to order'. Also, as I'm sure you know, the Carly Simon Playlist is compiled from her Arista albums (1985-2000), so even if it does represent an upgrade on Reflections (which I'd be surprised if it did), you'd still really need to keep Reflections for her 70s/early 80s hits.
