I'm not sure if this is available in the US but here in Europe it's a real bargain (about 12 Euro) and contains all 100 recordings he did for Sun in very good quality.

 

This comes up for sale on UK Amazon frequently. I got it for 20.83 pounds. Just a bit over $31.50. A incredible set of a much missed rocker...

Will do certainly. I recall it was one of the many Amazon UK Marketplace sellers offering it about two or three years ago. At the time a few others dropped the price between £15 and £20 to "compete". I don't know how long it stayed at that price or if it will ever be available again at the price but it's still a good buy IMHO at £30. I paid £22 all inclusive in 2008.

Yes, and besides the vinyl the set will also include:

• a box
• 180 page hardcover 11” x 11” book
• a certificate of authenticity
• a leopard skin printed spindle
• a strip of film cells from an original print of the ‘Don’t Look Back’ film
• a download link to hi-res audio files for all 18 discs

Of course all this stuff has a certain value, but I doubt anyone will be buying this set because of the book or the vinyl singles... Even if you value all the extra stuff at $100 (which is waaaay to much if you ask me), the price per CD still comes down to about $28 per disc. Hardly a bargain.

 

I've got the Citizen Steely Dan set, and I found the split albums annoying. So I ripped and re-organized into complete individual albums as NotebookWriter suggested. Also did the same thing with the two Robin Trower multi-disc sets, A Tale Untold, and Farther On Up The Road.

 

Thanks. Here's hoping others got in on the deal. I recently saw it for $60+ online. The two-disc sets were released individually, but they seem to be out-of-print. I've only seen single-disc remasters available lately.

 

There are are a number of variations and recordings that are not included in this box. I think at last count I was over 200+ for Johnny's Sun sessions.

From a sound quality perspective, this box is just OK -- there's a number of other collections that sound much, much better.

 

ELO Classic Albums Collection, contains all their studio albums from 1972-1986. On amazon.uk its £20 which works out at under £2 for each album.

Excellent. I'm generally a vinyl listener, but find the mastering of the discs in this set to be very good.

 

What about the 8CD budget version of Atlantic R & B 1947 - 1974

There's no notes or photos, and it's just 8 jewel cases wrapped in a flimsy paper sleeve....But the music is stupendous, the sound is very good, and the price is reasonable...
